All I can say is thank goodness for the parental controls on the router.

Our 9 y/o has a 2 our limit on his tablet on the weekends, but mom and dad can turn it off whenever we want.

That being said, he gets way too much screen time. But between COVID and being the dog days of summer, what are you going to do?

Try and limit it but whenever you need them to use a pad or something to get some work done let them have it.

Some weeks are good sometimes they have it more than they should.

The people I see limiting their kids to a certain amount of videos or tv shows are the ones whoses kids are obsessed with it and always cry for it.

I'm looking forward to my son being old enough for this.

Right now he gets about 30 minutes of a show in the mornings while we get ready, and maybe an hour or so in the evenings after his bath.

Weekends are usually more screen time unless we have something specific going on. Still try not to go crazy, though.

My 10 year old doesn’t care much for spending too much time on a screen, my younger one does though. This summer I’ve been more lax than normal. My youngest probably does 3-4 hours in front of a screen this summer, but before the virus and summer heat still probably averaged 1-2 hours.

We picked up Clubhouse Games on the Switch. It's got a few games that kids enjoy. My son's gotten into Uno and Sorry thanks to it, so we picked up physical copies and that's an effective way to kill an hour away from screens.

We don't really have a strict daily time limit but the kids have to do things before getting on a screen. Get dressed, pick up their rooms, chores, assignments (when in school). They also have to go outside to play or find someone to play with. Just having them do those things distract them from being on screens for most of the day.

Now we do have days that our kids are on for longer than they probably should. Like I am anticipating them to be on screens a lot this afternoon since it is about to storm and I'm not in the mood to have a bunch of neighborhood kids playing inside our house today. But they've also been outside for going on four hours now so I'm less fussed about screen time at this point. :)

see my 7 year old is the complete opposite

the more screen time she gets, the worse her attitude is and the more screen time she wants

if she doesn't get it that much, she doesn't even think about it

now that will probably change as she ages and plays with toys less and we will have to adjust accordingly

I have a two year old so we don’t have big struggles with it yet. He gets to watch 30 minutes of a show 2 times a week.

What I’ve read is that it’s important to limit it when they are much younger. The more screen time they get, the shorter their attention spans are and they pick up on fewer social cues and communication skills. This in turn can slow their development in the early stages and they could start off behind when they get into school.

My oldest was like that about YouTube. She just couldn't handle the sheer amount of content that never ended. She was fine with other apps that had some sort of stopping point but getting off YouTube triggered horrible tantrums and she had the worst attitude. We had to take the app off her tablet and our TVs for a few years.

We just started to let her watch it again now that she is older and she is better about it. We do direct her away from those stupid family vlogs with annoying kids that she loves and more to things that she could learn things. She got a skateboard for her birthday so she's been watching a lot of videos about how to do tricks.

We try to limit tablet time with my 4 year old, a little in the morning and a little in the afternoon.

I don't mind the TV being on cartoons most of the time because he rarely sits still and watches them. He's kinda the same way with the TV that I am, it's just background noise.

But it was a lot easier to limit screen time pre-bullshite, I mean pandemic. He's an only child and doesn't have many opportunities to play with the neighborhood kids.

Thats where I am at. single child, older neighborhood so no kids... Its hard but as adults we need to set the narrative to make sure activities are lined up to limit screen time. I am good with a couple of hours, but anything beyond that on the regular I feel is just not healthy for a young child.

I watched a lot of tv as a kid but also read a lot. I graduated as valedictorian and from college with honors.

I had set times and limits til Covid. Now it’s just “whatever, I’ve run out of stuff to do with you. Watch tv again”

On weekdays he gets 30 minutes in the morning while he drinks his milk before daycare.

The evenings it varies. We try to keep it for after bath time to an episode or two of Mickey. But I also work in MT, so sometimes after daycare he will come home and watch his tablet at the table and "work" with mommy.

He loves playing outside and his books, so I don't worry about it too much. Unless he is in die hard Blippi mode, in that case I try to shut it down quickly. I fricking hate that guy.

No tv or screens in our house Monday through Thursday. Friday is family movie night. Saturday and Sunday tv/screens allowed but usually we’re doing other stuff. I have a 2,3 and 6 year old so not sure if this works on older kids.

I’m sure it’s very kid dependent and the parents need to know their kids to decide. I have 2 boys and they’d 100% rather be outside or playing legos than watching tv.

The oldest has just started playing Nintendo and is a little obsessed with that at the moment so my view may change soon as well

We let our kids veg out on the iPads only on Saturdays, which is like 3 hours total just broken up with around meal time. If we go out to eat, they’ll watch a phone after they eat. Tv...again around meal time.

We usually have them playing with toys, board games, outside. If ya break it up between activities, they forget about the screen.

Well, looks like I spoke too soon.

I just go a data alert from my ISP that we're close to going over our data limit for the month (which ends today).

Darn you fireTV. lol.
