How many wrestling practices have you gone through? I promise those sprints weren’t the first thing he did that day. He also may have been cutting weight.

I’ll sit tight and await your stories of highschool football 2 a days

ETA : after reading your subsequent posts acting tough it’s important that you realize I’d bury you under any sonic you can hobble to. This is coming from someone who has over 25 years of experience in combat sports and continue to train every day.

Settle down internet tough guy. Sounds like this was the first day of practice and more of a conditioning type workout. Certainly the sprints (multiple) were designed to exhaust everyone. Also sounds like he was falling behind so the coaches were being dicks (fairly normal). Sounds like the rest of the team managed to survive.

One thing is certain, the coaches were fricking morons for withholding water.

Sounds like this guy reported to practice out of shape. Coaches were riding his arse. The over did it and caused heat stroke. definitely culpable.

I find it very interesting how some posters on here are making it seem like 84 degrees isn't hot.

I grew up in Louisiana and I have done plenty of runs in the Louisiana heat. I just came from a 4-mile run on a track at 86 degrees with humidity ("feels like" temperature for me today was 92). I literally felt like I was going to collapse at the end of the run. It was that hot.

Anyone who's saying "84 ain't that bad" should go on a run in 84 and humid weather. I bet your tune will change.

The guy wanted some water, was denied by coaches, and he pushed on anyway and died. Sounds like a real pussy to me too, boomer.

The idiots calling this kid a pussy have never spent any time in plastics riding a stationary bike in a sauna while restricting water.

They did Oklahoma drills in highschool though!!

Dude, this was conditioning drills for a college D2 wrestling program. These guys a supposed to be able to hack it. For some reason this guy had problems that nobody else on the team had. Maybe he was sick, maybe he went out drinking the night before and was dehydrated. We have no idea. But to insinuate the 84 degrees in Kentucky is unbearably hot is laughable. This i snot Louisiana humidity levels we are talking about.

The issue is he was denied water...... That is troubling.

You clearly have never met an elite level football player or track Olympian. Ask them what they think about hydration and nutrition. The last 20 years everyone has gotten more physically stronger. Name a guy that is 300lbs from the 90s that could run a 4.8 40 time. If you can't do that now good chance you won't be drafted. Nutrition is one of if not the most important factors of being elite. shite it should be taught in middle school. What does Tom Brady do first thing in the morning every morning and has for the last 25 years? He gets up and chuggs a bunch of water. Water is one of the most important things for our body to function. I get it though as the old saying goes... Ignorance is bliss.

You insinuate you have..... Yet you are still alive.

There is more to the story.

BTW: 9# loss of water weight was the routine at our practices. You?

Denying kids water during intense workouts is the most idiotic thing some coaches do.

I’m glad I never had coaches like that. I played basketball in high school. We could run out to the hallway outside the gym and get water from the water fountain any time we wanted. we were always the most conditioned team. We played for the state championship 3 years in a row. So clearly the whole “water is for the weak” nonsense has no effect on winning. All it does is make kids unnecessarily suffer.

How in the hell is that guy allowed to coach high school kids and teach special needs children after such a heinous act? Saraland High is obviously run by morons.

Outside temperature doesn't matter if you don't have water and need it. Your brain needs salts and water to function properly. Half of epilepsy medication is based on the neural sodium channel blockers. When you have too much activity in the brain they inhibit them and reduce seizures. When you are dehydrated and not enough water and salts your brain ceases or slows electrical connections. You get confused, your body begins to shutdown. You cramp up because all those mineral salts are trying to protect your brain and keep those neurons firing. When they run out you stroke out.

Jesus some of y'all need to do some reading. Thank God you were never athletic enough to play sports above 9th grade football.

Fair point, but I'm just saying it's a lot easier to say "84 isn't hot" when you're sitting comfortably in the air conditioning than when you're training in the heat/humidity.

We don’t have as many high humidity days here as you all, but we absolutely have days that are like what you have in Louisiana. And yes, 84 here can be unbearable.

Yes, regularly

Water weight manipulation is a huge part of cutting weight.

We are going to just go ahead and assume the guy did not report to practice in a dehydrated condition. Given that, his heat stroke was a direct result of the ambient temperature which directly impacted his loss of fluids and vital minerals.

I suggest you enroll in an "Introduction to Elementary Logic" course ASAP.

frick that coach. This isn't the Bear Bryant and the Junction Boys days. Medicine and science has improved and we know the worst thing to do is to deny water when someone's body is telling them they need it. The coach should go to jail for this. His actions caused this kid to die.
