What scouting should be. However, with the infiltration of liberal ideals it is and will not be what it was.

BSA as we know it will be dead and gone in 10 years or less.

Eagle Scout here...there have always been Troops that did this. Get as many to eagle as quickly as possible and brag about their paper eagles.

On the flip side there are also troops who won’t hold an eagle Board of review for anyone under 16.

Likely much more to do with the troop and the adults running it than a PR conspiracy from BSA.

They've only done it to themselves. They've gotten away from the things that made Girl Scouts fun in a lot of troops because of cookie sales.

Are cookie sales seriously the only thing they focus on?

I think they were going broke before they went woke.

1) No

2) Why would they want to? Girls are leaving GSUSA because it's a poor program.

That's weird.

Is Katy, TX still a nice area?

I don't disagree with that, but here is what I tell people about what I really learned in scouting:
I learned how to be self-reliant and self-motivated through the earning of ranks & merit badges. I learned how to set goals, form a plan, execute the plan, and earn it.
Learned some valuable shite at that age regarding personal finance, local/national/international citizenship, I learned how to deal with sudden unexpected emergencies through lifesaving merit badge, BSA lifeguard, CPR, first aid etc.
That put me ahead of 90% of the local dipshits at my age and most people I meet as an adult.

Absolutely. Kids these days need these skills more than ever. Including girls.

However, in the last 20 years or so I've noticed some scout organizations which appear to be rapid badge collection operations.

That has been an issue for a while. It's a small minority of troops, but yes, some of them are merit badge factories and/or Eagle Scout factories.

Even for them... 20 months is insane.

If you actually want to learn, develop, and mature, I don't see how you can really do it - do it by the spirit of the program - in less than 4 years.

Is allowing gay scouts a "liberal" idea?

I don't know what else about scouts is "liberal"

The skills you learn in Scouts - how to survive, think, work with others, etc, are skills that aren't "liberal" or "conservative". They are just life skills.

Unlike many of the O-T and many of my fellow Eagles, I didn't have any issue with the formation of girl troops. If they can achieve the rank of Eagle, they deserve the status of that.

Same here and 99% of the Eagle Scouts that I was in scouts with don’t care either. My son is in a coed troop now and some of those girls are awesome. We went on a 2 1/2 day 20 mile hike the first weekend of October and 2 of the girls that went did better than most of the boys.

But yeah, getting Eagle in a year is a little quick.

I would assume the girls followed the letter of the rank requirements. But something about this does not sit right with me. Making Eagle is supposed to be the culmination of a journey. 20 months isn't much of a journey.

This isn't an entirely new thing. Lots of boys have made Eagle in 24-30 months, and I think that's too fast as well.

Also, I'll state that all four of these girls came from the same troop.

I haven't read the full thread yet, so I'm not sure if what I'm about to write has already been said or not.

I'm an Eagle Scout. I'm okay with allowing girls into the BSA as long as the program goes unaltered.

Now, having said that in regards to the parts I've quoted, you have to take into account maturity differences at that age between the sexes, for one thing. Secondly, these were likely older teens rather than younger girls that just crossed over from Cubs. They gave anyone (or any girl?) that joined two years to complete the program. So...a 17 year old about to turn 18 in February of 2019 had time to complete Eagle. (Pretty sure this time is going to be extended for everyone due to the shutdown as well.) So..older/more mature = more organized.

With a new unit, likely consisting of a smaller number of girls, they probably didn't have any issue fulfilling the leadership position requirement for all the levels.

And, back to the maturity aspect, we'll likely see a higher percentage of female Scouts earn Eagle as the years go by compared to males. Just the way things are at that age group.

Then I started thinking about it. These girls were eligible to join in Feb 2019. It is now early October 2020. From Feb 2019 to Sept 2020 is 20 months. To go from entry to Eagle in 20 months is... rather fast.

They're preparing them to fly through Ranger school like the first two clams that got pushed through.

Not into the type of unit/program (Boy Scouts/Troops) that led to earning the Eagle Rank.

The Venturing/Exploring programs of BSA have been co-ed for well over two decades, though.

Allowing girls was no doubt a financial move for the BSA.

Bankruptcy because of the molestation scandal is currently happening.

Losing members over the years for various causes, one of which here in the south is the advent and growth of the OT favorite...year round travel ball.

The debatable decisions of allowing liberal things like opening gay leaders/boys and trans "boys" lost the Mormons...which made up like a third of all BSA units. (Biggest hit there).

Scouting organizations around the world have been co-ed for a long time, and parts of BSA has been co-ed for decades. And those programs (Exploring/Venturing/Sea Scouts) are the older kids with lots of high adventure. Not really a huge change to allow girls into the main programs now...as long as those programs don't change.

So...one could point to going woke breaking the BSA by losing the Mormons, but might be too early to call the coroner.

It is possible they were already in Venture Scouts, and their work was credited toward Scouts BSA. It's also possible that they are awesome.

My daughter is in Scouts BSA, because Girl Scouts sucks for kids that like to do outdoor stuff, shoot guns, get knives, etc. The girls I see are cut from a different cloth, and are there because they want to be. So many boys are there because their parents want them to be there.
