Different programs with different advancement requirements. You don't earn merit badges in Venturing.

In Venturing, the Eagle "equivalent" is the Summit Award.
In Sea Scouts, the Eagle "equivalent" is Quatermaster.

Different requirements for each, but there is no doubt overlap of skills. However, you're only earning merit badges, which is required for Eagle, in the Boy Scouts, now ScoutsBSA.

I wouldn’t have a problem with this if it was handled in the right way. BUT, I haven’t seen or heard of an visible organization yet that has went about of of this the right way.

Earning Eagle in 20 months is physically impossible. Maybe it's doable on paper but in reality, no way. There's tons of other things going on in a kid's life at 11 when they can join, and time only gets more sparse as kids get older.

I had a couple friends whose parents pressured them to finish by the time they were 16. That's still 5 years to get it done and most of those kids were miserable between that and school crunch.

There's not just the amount of time you have to be 1st Class, Star, and Life scout at issue, there's also the actual merit badges. Just making it to camps or merit badge classes can take a while because there's only so many happening in any given month, and some only offer A-G badges, but you need P etc etc.

So yeah unless there was some kind of grand fathering in of prior work done or an equivalency made there's no way.

I am an active leader in a couple units. It is entirely possible they chose to count work done in Venture scouts toward Scouts BSA.
LINK .

With the exception of the Eagle rank and Summit Award service projects, any work done while a Venturer can count toward both Scouts BSA and Venturing advancement at the same time.

Good for them and I guess scouting has changed.

When I was in, the Troop I was in was gung ho. A former marine drill sgt was our scout master and he actually was a cool old dude.

We hiked a lot with our backpacks, built rope bridges, use to go to some state parks to learn to mountain climb up and rappel down a mountain, fly fishing trips, motorcross desert riding, and horse back riding.

It was fun unfortunately today due to liability I doubt the troops do some of the outdoor activities we did.

I gave up at 15 yrs old to play high school sports which was a full time activity back in the 1970’s. Some guys I started out with stayed in to become Eagle Scouts.

If any of those young ladies went to summer camp the amount of male attention on them would be astronomical.

Leadership time requirements, I could see. But they weren't working on merit badges before they were allowed into ScoutsBSA.

I guess they could have pencil-whipped requirements for merit badges after the fact, though.

Eagle'86
I have no problem with these girls getting the badge.
Sharp looking kids. 21st Century. Wearing the uniform. OK.
But 20 months sounds like an agenda.
OOA isn't easy to get in 20 mos.
27-30 M.B aren't easy to get in 20 mos.
Some of those M.B. take some real time and work.
Service projects seem a little-canned.
"Coffee Cup" patrol sends the wrong signal.
I'll fore-go the balance of the TLDR post.

Ditto.

And our priest got caught screwing the choir director.

Current priest would be an alcoholic, but he's an Italian Catholic priest. So he gets a pass

I had not heard this. Well, as part of my job I've had to sit through a bunch of these trainings. I'm curious what the merit badge requirements will look like. Already, you have to get the three Citizenship ones (Community, Nation, World) There's also Environment Science which I'm sure some people think is biased towards climate change.

That was one of my questions... is there some sort of a transition?

Yeah. You have two things... leadership time and time as First Class, Star, and Life. I could see Venture time count as leadership time, but how does it count as time as First Class, Star, and Life?

Know what you mean. My daughter was a better Scout and had more fun with scouting than any of my boys did
