I guess that’s what I don’t understand. I find it hard to believe that the chapter was powerless and the national organization simply “forced” this on them. There must have been a significant level of support in the chapter for it to happen. Otherwise, why on earth wouldn’t the membership majority simply quit or move out of the house? The chapter wouldn’t last a semester with dues, room and board and other fees. Problem then solves itself.

I hate to break it to y'all, but almost all sororities have some kind of inclusive language for membership. I'm in the middle of writing recs, so I've been perusing some of the Greek pages at various schools.
Straight from the University of Alabama Panhellenic page:
National Panhellenic Conference Panhellenic Recruitment Eligibility (2020) – POLICY For the purpose of participation in Panhellenic recruitment, woman is defined as an individual who consistently lives and self-identifies as a woman. Each women’s-only NPC member organization determines its own membership selection policies and procedures.
Absolute insanity. You can't just wake up one day and decide to BE a woman or vice versa.

Easier said than done at the time. The girls had likely already paid their dues and those living in the house had likely already paid to live there. They'd have had to find another place to live and I doubt they would have been refunded their money. If they made arrangements for the next semester to move and resign, that would likely work. I have to wonder if they're getting new members if that guy is still an active.
I looked up their Facebook page and they haven't posted since October 2022.

The whole thing is based on idiocy. Ask them to define what a woman is. And then you will get the circular logic of "well it's anyone who thinks they're one"...BUT WHAT DO THEY THINK THEY ARE?
The other response would be a description that brings it back into the realm of biological fact (aka "the sexes"), but that sets them up for the response that "then there is no way they are what can be what they proclaim to be".
If anyone can be a woman whenever they decide to be and no one can define what they are, who do these people try and change their appearance to align with the biological definition?
What does "living as a woman" entail that is so different than "living like a man"? Does it begin and end with using the women's bathroom?
It's so incredibly illogical that it's insane. Both literally and figuratively.
