Happened in Arkansas north of Little Rock.

Somehow I had never heard of this incident.

Pretty scary... guy drops a socket during maintenance and nearly sets of a nuclear explosion that would have had fallout that could of killed me before I was born (I was in the womb at the time).

Damn Air Force, you scary.

Yep, missle blew up in its silo, ejecting the nuclear warhead 300 yards or feet away, luckily nuclear warheads don’t explode that way....or no Arkansas and surrounding States

Ironically, Arkansas’ football program resembles a nuclear wasteland at the moment

It's crazy to think about some of these incidents like this you don't hear much about. There was also an incident in the fifties where a nuclear bomb was dropped over South Carolina. Fortunately they had stored the core in a separate part of the plane.

A real argument can be made that taking out Arkansas completely in 1980 would have been addition through subtraction for the U.S. in toto.

The road to where that happened sometimes has interesting lights on it.

might be overstating the warhead's yield there....

The impact crater is still partially visible.

That's not how nuclear bombs work...

It certainly could have pushed radioactivity into the air but I highly doubt a nuclear explosion would have happened.

Can you tell us where you watched the doc? I'd love to see it

My parents lived in Bossier at the time of the Cuban Missile crises.

I thought it was nearly impossible for them to accidentally go off.

I saw it too and read the book. The book tells of a fairly long history of near misses with nuclear tech. Good read.
