21 years with the company. 55 year old guy. Part of our purchasing team. One of the nicest guys you could talk to. Everyone was blindsided by it. What do you do at that age in life? I can’t imagine. He has a young daughter..probably 7. He just brought her in around Christmas to show her where he worked took her around meeting everyone. He was a slow worker but very detail oriented, and always got his job done, just sometimes worked 12 hr days to do it while others in his department only takes them 9 hours a day. I couldn’t imagine working here for 21 years then getting fired at 55. I woulda taken it a lot worse than him that’s for sure.

At 55 with a 7 year old daughter, he could be a male prostitute.

Had to make room for the young bull who will take 70% of his pay and do the work in half the time.

As much as older employees bitch about millennials, most of them are slow as frick and cost more than they're worth.

Think he was just under performing. He always got his job done, but he would stay till 8-9 o clock getting his emails and reports in.

Sucks to hear but sounds like the old head was inefficient.

yea... most employers love paying overtime for a job that should be done during regular hours.

Don’t think he married her till later in life. She looked to be around 40 when I met her.

Sounds like a wise time to call in sick the next few days. Just in case.

Salary, so not paying any overtime.

If he was smart, he has saved plenty of money for a day like this.

Was he blindsided by it?
Being 55 and having worked for the company so long, he had to have been warned, coached, or otherwise notified of his performance.
Or he was a “victim” of #metoo

Well if he was well connected and networked then he'll either get another position or go in to consulting. A lot of older baws like the consulting direction when they have to start over late in a career.
