Row 1:
fleet oiler USNS Hassayampa (T-AO-145),
destroyer USS Leftwich (DD-984),
guided missile destroyer USS Hoel (DDG-13);
Row 2:
fleet replenishment oiler USS Kansas City (AOR-3),
guided missile cruiser USS Bunker Hill (CG-52),
frigate USS Robert E. Peary (FF-1073);
Row 3:
guided missile cruiser USS Long Beach (CGN-9),
aircraft carrier USS Ranger (CV-61),
battleship USS Missouri (BB-63);
Row 4:
fleet replenishment oiler USS Wichita (AOR-1),

USS Ranger, CV-61, turns to port after completing an underway replenishment with USS Kansas City, AOR-3, while USS Valley Forge, CG-50, is also taking on fuel. Pacific, 28 March 1991

How do they secure the aircraft on the carriers if they are heading into rough seas? some of those look like they are 10 feet or so from falling off.

They’ve never thought of securing them. Lucky nothing happened before you mentioned it.

My brother was on the Ranger for his 2nd tour. It was the last tour for the Ranger. His 1st tour was on the Midway and it was the last tour for that carrier.

Three of the ships I served on grouped together.
USS Concord, USS Milwaukee, USS Nimitz
Concord was sunk in a torpedo training exercise, Milwaukee was scrapped for razor blades and Nimitz still carrying on proudly.
