The winds may have been down to cat 3 but the water had momentum and came in like 4 or 5.

IMO if the two canal breaks wouldn't have happened, the emphasis would be on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

According you your logic, Katrina didn't hit BSL.

Ok I can agree with this to a point. But it still was no Camille. The surges may have been close in height but the power of the Camille surge with those wind speeds I doubt will ever be matched. Just imagine a 22 ft wall of water being pushed by 175 mph sustained winds for hours.

Was your friend’s name Brandon? I was told this story by a volunteer fire fighter and assumed he was fibbing because my brain didn’t want to deal with it.

my family had a small cinder block
house in Ocean Springs. before the big hill

my uncle drove up after Katrina and could only find it because he recognized the linoleum on the slab. the rest was gone

Had to go look it up… Three breaches. Two canals. 17th St broke on orleans side. London ave canal had breaches on both sides. MRGO and Industrial canal levees were overtopped.

Can’t believe it’s been 20 years. What a crazy fricking time that was, still is really.

I wouldn't argue with that. Thats the storm I hrew up in the 1970s hearing about. Had relatives in Waveland. I'd defer to the older folks from Waveland to Ocean Springs to do that.

I thought the storm surge of Katrina around Biloxi pushed much further inland than that of Camille's storm surge.

At that point you're just splitting hairs anyway. Thirty feet of water is thirty feet of water. Everything is sufficiently destroyed no matter the particulars. That is similar to people debating the strongest (E)F5 tornado. It is all destruction, complete and horrific.

Well, that's true too.
