Mea Culpa, it is Medicaid. At one point years ago, one of EWE's biggest cronies, and that's saying a lot, former Lt. Governor Bobby Freeman & his buddies owned over 30 of the State's nursing homes. They made a fortune.

Many are owned by Louisiana politicians. Need I say more?

Pop spent some time rehabbing at a place on Jeff why in river ridge. It was horrible. He said he will kill himself before going back to a home.

That or thrown into the streets as homeless left to starve to death.
In the meantime, the 35 Million + 500,000 more/month illegal aliens thank you for your trillion/year gift to grifters.

STAY HEALTHY and INDEPENDENT, my friends, as long as absolutely possible.

The one my grandfather with dementia was in is nice huge new facility that sells you all kind of BS. All they did was over medicate him to the point of him nearly dying so they wouldn’t have to deal with him. Took him out and have him with a private care taker and he’s been doing just fine for over a year since

I had a serious neck injury last year, the hospital released me to go to a rehab hospital, the only bed available was in a nursing home/rehab facility, Heritage Manor in BR. In actuality, there was no real rehab, once a week a PT would come in for an hour for all patients, I never saw her.
I had to be assisted to take a pee, I'd hit the buzzer and no one would come. Then the screams started, some of the patients would start screaming, it was impossible to rest. I asked the nurse about it, she said I should get a white noise machine to drown out the noise.
The home had a covid outbreak, they followed no protocol, the residents we're all sitting out in the hall playing cards. I wanted to leave before I was exposed, but they would not release me without their physician examining me, she only came on Wednesday, I had been admitted on a Thursday, if I left AMA (against medical advice) I could lose all my insurance benefits.
The food was inedible, my wife brought me meals from the Waffle House near Airline and I-12. One the 3rd day I asked my attorney to get dressed up and come see me to take a "statement", I made sure he announced who he was and why he was there, in preparation for litigation.
Within an hour they released me without a physician examining me. Luckily I was able to recover at home with nursing care.
Never go near Heritage Manor

Sounds like a nursing home lie similar to the one they threaten you with for leaving the hospital.

Because inflation has made it impossible to hire decent people in low level occupations.

Why make $12-14 as a Nurse Tech and be treated like absolute dog shite when you can start out at $20 while working at Buc-ee's?

Unfortunately my Dad was in a few before he passed earlier this year.
He started at St Joseph of Harahan, not bad but not great. He then got moved to Winnfield Nursing and Rehab, and that place was an absolute shitehole. I moved him out after 3 months. His final place was Flannery Oaks in Baton Rouge, and it was probably the best one he could have been at.
After seeing what he went through, I wish there was more that could have been done. We just didn't have the ability to care for him full time after his dementia had worsened.

It's kinda like that everywhere.
If you care about your loved one but can't take care of them, your best bet is to set up home health and put cameras everywhere.

Out staff is great as far as care goes for residents .. the company who owns it sucks however and is all about making money.
And as far as the owner they got shut down for Ida, I just want to point out that their plan was approved by the state.
(I consult at a local facility)

Agreed.
And to the poster who commented as to how a family can document all of the issues and not do anything, well, that’s another issue. I would hope that they’re trying/looking to move their family member.
We’ve got residents who have no family — or they don’t allow them to be involved in their care for whatever reason. I’ve seen some never be visited. Some require so much care that idk if it would ever be able to be done at home.
The best thing you can do is to visit daily or near daily, rotate the times that you go, point out issues, ask questions, and use the ombudsman if needed (they advocate for the resident and are an outside person).
Again all I know is where I consult. We have employees who’ve been there 15/20 years .. and those that leave tend to be leaving due to a crap company. It starts at the top sadly. Which circles back to locally owned is often times so so much better.

That was likely a snf unit.
A true rehab center typically has a 3 hour minimum of therapy has to be tolerated.
Our “rehab” is a snf unit — therapy, iv meds, tube feedings — “skilled care”.
