If you go to shite hole parts of town...East Memphis, Downtown, Midtown, GTown, Cville are all pretty good/nice...pro sports, support the local college...stay out of ghetto it is not bad..been here for 20+ years

earthquake to hit central Mississippi was Dec 11, 1992, where a magnitude 2.4 shook Humphreys County.
The last earthquake to strike Mississippi was July 27, 2012. A magnitude 2.1 tremor occurred near Meridian.
The strongest quake recorded in Mississippi was a magnitude 4.7 on Dec 16, 1931 near Charleston in north Mississippi.

Exactly how I described one of similar size when I was working in SF. Just one hard jolt. Except I was asleep when it hit around 5am. Dreamt that a Mack truck rammed into the wall my hotel bed was on and woke up thinking it was only a dream until later.

I go to Memphis pretty often. It’s got a lot of typical southern city issues but has some fantastic areas.

The first time I was ever in one, I was teaching a class in Japan and everybody immediately jumped under the big wooden table we were sitting at. I truly had no idea what was happening and felt like a dumbass.

I remember some "scientist" predicted a major earthquake on the New Madrid Fault line on Dec 3, 1990. I was in fourth grade and being in Memphis, a lot of parents kept their kids home from school that day. Those of us that went watched movies all day.
We also had to bring "earthquake kits" to school which had a space blanket, some snacks and two Capri Suns.
