Did you search for your telephone number…maybe you are in some database? There are all kinds of databases of public information out there. Unfortunately, “people” use them for phishing attempts to get your confidential info.

I usually assume it's a bot on the other end but will sometimes entertain them. Last one I got was a text asking if I wanted to go fishing because it had been a while. I said, hell yes, and asked which lake. They named one in Southern California which was unfortunate because I live 3,000 miles away from that lake. I do love fishing though.

I get texts that call me by my first name. Think about all the times you put your name and cell into some kind of form. It’s not hard to get that info for anybody really.
Now if they ask “is this [my real name]?”…then it means I didn’t give it to whoever that is and they go straight to junk.
