I'm in a similar position. Im an estimator, worked my way up from the tools. Been with this company for 5 years. I was given a lot more responsibility over the summer with no increase in pay. I have been going to school on my own penny and graduate in December. If they dont make my pay rate competitive when I get my review in December then I am going to start seriously looking. I've stayed with this company so far because it has been stable and right now while finishing up school that was more important to me than money.

My company ( commercial GC) is struggling retaining young guys right now, as well.
They dont understand. When they have a guy with 5 years of experience making only a couple grand over entry level pay, they are going to start answering the head hunters' calls.
The construction market is BOOMING. They are going to have to pay to play.

I put in my two weeks last week and moving to GA. Haven't really done any hard job hunting, since I'm not there locally yet. Have got a couple calls and a few emails. I'm thinking about going through a headhunter. But I'm not free until the beginning of next month. It is pretty awesome not giving too much of a shite at work anymore, but still haven't slacked off yet. I guess they are going to let me finish out my notice..

That's why I work for myself now. Worked for a big engineering firm for nearly 20 years and couldn't take it anymore. Filling out utterly ridiculous performance reviews and corporate training and safety observations. Uhhhhhg. Such bullchit. Also working with absurd job budgets for small jobs not based on the fact people that work 40hrs/week. Oh and the meetings... the countless bullchit meetings. Good lord, I don't miss those.

Congrats.
I just interviewed for a job that would offer me almost the exact same thing (anywhere from a 30-50% boost in pay, 15 fewer minutes commuting, better bennies). Should hear about it by week's end.

Labor. I also deal with getting quotes from vendors and using AX to write POs and approve them. My title is estimator but I do a lot of different crap including billing.

Construction management.

We just had a manager leave without a notice, to run away to join the circus. shite was so random. But the best part was my boss was mad because he said she stole his idea. He says he can't top that when he leaves. I thought that was a funny thing to be mad about.

Submitted my 2 weeks on Monday
leaving for a higher salary after being with a company that has financial uncertainty and is going through phase after phase of layoffs. I feel liberated!

I feel like I'm in the same boat. Been at the same job for about 8 years doing estimating and supervising at a machine shop/metal fab shop. My stomach turns every sunday because I hate knowing what comes when I wake up in the morning. Just not sure what the next step is with no degree under the age of 35

I'm 30. Mcneese has a b.s. in management program that is all online. Once you have a lot of experience the bs is just for looks

10 minutes closer each way,
How could it be closer only one way?

Please take this common sense out of here!
I think the point was not 5 minutes each way or 10 minutes total.
