Much better money (35%+), 10 minutes closer each way, and better benefits.

My big boss tried to give me a lowball cola after my annual review and basically scoffed at the idea that the engineering market is on fire atm. Thats in addition to a fifth of the productive office staff either getting fired for no reason/bad reasons or left for better money. Didnt want to stay on the sinking ship.

Yeah I know, CSB.

Tl:dr if youre unhappy with your job find a better one or improve your value. Also, a cautionary note to the boss men of the world, if you fire a lot of your valuable employees dont be surprised when others get the hint.

Doesn’t it feel good? I’ve only done it once but it will be the most carefree two weeks of your life.

I'm in a similar situation and beginning to explore other options. I see the writing on the wall where I'm at currently and now know my value as a young scientist/engineer in a field where most people are >>55 and close to retirement. Glad things worked out for you and hoping for the same on my end

That's why I work for myself now. Worked for a big engineering firm for nearly 20 years and couldn't take it anymore. Filling out utterly ridiculous performance reviews and corporate training and safety observations. Uhhhhhg. Such bullchit. Also working with absurd job budgets for small jobs not based on the fact people that work 40hrs/week. Oh and the meetings... the countless bullchit meetings. Good lord, I don't miss those.

Its a good time to have a technical background. Not too long ago this was not the case. Good luck!
