Why even give 2 weeks? The company isn’t gonna give you 2 minutes if they decide to liquidate you.
Look out for #1. There is no loyalty of a business to their workers anymore

Good point. I like how companies expect you to give your notice, yet they won't always reciprocate.

My company walks people who give their notice within a few hours 90% of the time. They give exactly zero fricks about employee retention. They just go hire a kid out of college for 40% less money than the guy with 10+ years experience and expect him to do the same job. Then that guy realizes that our industry pays a LOT more for experienced people and then they leave for 30-50% more pay. Repeat process.

I'm jealous. Seriously, I am loathing my job this very minute, and haven't had a raise in 5 years.

so does mine, but it's more for security reasons than just being a dick, they will also hire you back if the need or position arises, so it's a good idea to not burn those bridges

You idiot millennials complain about not being able to pay off your student loans but you only keep a job for a few months

What can you do to go to the next level? Professional license? Go out on your own? Graduate/college degree?
It really sucks to dread your day when you wake up before work.

you need a change baw, I've been in my line of work for around 40 years and have never once dreaded going to work, I actually look forward to it, sometimes don't even look at it as work, good luck

I’m just sour. Got laid off Friday (the whole crew did) with zero warning. Found out through the rumor mill. No severance, nothing. New job today but it’s bullshite how companies want you to treat them with respect but don’t think they need to reciprocate.

I was on a big engineering job and the LEAD engineer on the project walked off after finding he wasnt getting his bonus.
Freaking Crazy.
I was working for peanuts.
This guy was making really good money.
And if he had hit his bonus he would have been making boo coo money.
Some of these old guys just need to retire.
But No one trains anyone anymore, and all companies want is experience on the discount.

Without giving too much info away, I graduated in 2010 and finally got my PE last year in civil/structural. In that time my office changed management from an employee centered boss to a bottom line focused one -at the predictable cost of employee satisfaction, which subsequently crashed client satisfaction... Which led to him firing a bunch of good engineers for bad reasons (mainly voicing legit concerns abt deadlines and project budgets).
So the current branch manager basically did everything possible not to recognize my change in PE status- to the point that they asked why I was expensing my PE stamp. So when annual review time came around I voiced what I thought was a reasonable salary based on the quantity of work I produced (far above cost of living increase), and he agreed. So when I got a 3% bump in salary after passing my PE and no bonus for the year I decided to start looking elsewhere.

lots of big companies' engineers don't even bother with that, they'd rather see them with a masters

The big engineering firms are sending 40 to 70 percent of the design engineering to low cost offshore locations.
The result is that the younger engineers and designers are not gaining the technical experience they need to become competent senior leaders.
The good news is that if you are one of those 5 year experienced engineers with capable technical skills, you are very valuable.
