Well I mean she was desperate enough to have sex with you at 18, so what did you expect?

I barely remembered the mom's name and she didn't even know mine. The man's wife says the child was raised by grandparents and he didn't have a relationship with his mom and says she would never tell her who his father was. I think it's because she didn't know.
Yes, trashy... I know. We were 18 and met at a bar.

So this is what happens when we send in our DNA?

Thank the good Lord I never did this.

The 70's were pretty wild for me.

You should have written to him and not the OT. Reach out and be honest.

Or bang his wife so this happens again in 30 years

This is one reason that I won't do one of those tests. Some things are best just to never find out.

I had one night stands in my late teens and early/mid 20s with women that I don't remember much about, let alone their names.

Talk to him maybe meet and see if either of you want a relationship.

Yes it’s too late for a father/son traditional relationship but he has kids so now you can have a grandfather/grandkid relationship if that’s what you and your son want if not then give him your family medical history for future references and go yalls separate ways.

Having grandkids can be a special thing for a person you never know what you might or might not lose unless you at least try and see about a relationship

What should I be worried about?
Inheritance considerations depending on the state where you and he reside.

The way it showed up is that his wife did their children's DNA. I came back as the grandfather.

WTF Ancestry just communicates private information to anyone identified as a potential relation?

Take comfort in the fact this is a far from unique situation. I found out I had a half sister. Won't get into the details. But I and my siblings knew there was a possibility but never thought we'd find her. Well, Ancestry and poof, we found her and eventually met her.
I wouldn't worry about any obligations. But his wife contacting you probably means he's like to meet you. I understand that from his standpoint and good luck.

And in our case our half sister had no frickin' idea about us/the situation. She was taken aback. Just a little clue, my dad was recommended as a sperm donor in the case of a couple who could not conceive. And that was way back in the late 1940s before my dad shipped off to medical school. Now folks, come at me with the jokes!

Years ago a young black kid reached out on Facebook to me to let me know he was my second cousin. My cousin Erica had gotten pregnant by a black guy when she was 16 and my Uncle forced her to give him up for adoption.

Turns out he found a good family and is married with a child.

Both parties have to opt in to be notified they have a potential relative.
