Not sure about the son, but this Sheriff’s Dad was a major hillbilly tool. Dumb as dirt.

This is false. For one Windows 98 isn’t even around any longer. I know of 2 other agencies running the same software on Windows 11 and the latest SQl servers. It’s still supported.

Changing the uniform color isn’t an additional cost. They have to buy uniforms yearly regardless. You understand clothes wear out, right?
Clothes do wear out but there isn’t an agency I know of that replaces every piece of uniform every year. He changed the uniform and had to replace everyone’s uniform. That’s a huge expense for an agency the size of TPSO.
Buying tricked out Harley isn’t much difference than buying a Tahoe from a cost perspective . A Harley is a toy for an agency like TPSO. They have about 30% of the use of a Tahoe.

Back in the day the drinking age in LA was 18. Beer was 18 in MS, but other alcohol was 21. We used to cross the border on 51 to go to Smiley's (I think). We were 16 or 17, but they weren't huge on checking your ID.
A Tangipahoa deputy was usually in the parking lot trying to figure out who was the most sober for the drive back. They told us to stick to 51, because Smiley had a deal with the Pike County boys not to bust his customers, and we were to stay off of I-55 because the MS state troopers didn't play.

Lord knows they've got enough people driving like assholes through their parish to make $25m in a year.
Its like traffic enforcement is non-existent now and I'm not talking about the people driving 5-10 MPH over. The road is full of nuts.

Edwards and his crew took all cash reserves on their way out the door in the form of retirement payouts for the top leadership. He was doing a $8 to $1 match to their 401k’s along with paying the top brass a $1200 a month “car allowance” for their F250’s that they also left with.
Why would anyone defend grift like this?
That’s disgusting.

Not once in this thread has it been mentioned that the new sales tax was countered by a reduction in property millage
They didn’t mention because they didn’t know. They didn’t research it because it’s just easier to blindly bitch about stuff.

Prior to the new Sheriff, Edwards was paying his guys a whopping $14 an hour. Disgraceful.
So less than McDonald’s. Yet people wonder why there are issues with personnel.
TLDR
You get what you pay for.

The ol' squeeze blood from a stone technique. Never mind how much money the state could raise by being the only legal marijuana state in the region. Money from Texas, Arkansa, Mississippi, and then the locals would have brought in millions for the state to work with

People are tired of taxes. Do better with budgeting.

He is getting a millage already ?
A 3/4 % sales tax is a huge rase to an already high sales tax is my guess.
But anyway few politicians ever have enough OP's money to spend.

The pharmacy model is safe, effective, high profit and relatively immune to over saturation of the market. All they have to do is legalize it for recreational use and rake in the dough. If you are going to call it medicine (and it is), then we are already there. Keep the responsibility for quality product and dose control and just open the market to everyone

The irony here is the police are some of the biggest opponents to that

I don’t think him trying to do a bullying technique is going to work out the way he hopes. Going on social media and crying like teenager will come back to bite him next election

A lot of people don’t realize that protecting individuals is not the role of law enforcement.
Police responsibilities are enforcing laws, preventing and investigating crime, and maintaining public order to ensure the safety of the community.
They do protect dignitaries and select public officials in the scope of their duties.
Protecting each individual of the public is not their responsibility.
I get your point. But in what world are we pretending that “preventing and investigating crime” isn’t protecting the public? Your “individuals” disclaimer meaning specific protection detail isn’t what people are talking about. But preventing crime does protect the communities at large.
My biggest issue with this is a) the massive amount of taxes local governments already have access to, and b) the sheriff’s statement is ignoring the other local police as someone mentioned earlier. He’s acting like his 9 officers are the only source of law enforcement in the parish, which is patently false and intentionally misleading/disingenuous.

Dumb reactionary comment by the sheriff. But also, a lot of dumb comments in this thread by people who don’t understand what this was.
This sales tax would have replaced a property tax (ie. Lowered property taxes) and shifted the burden of funding the sheriffs office from property owners to everyone. An easy yes vote for property owners. Shame it didn’t pass.

I think "protecting the public" is hyperbole. I understand why they say it, but it doesnt reflect reality.
Cops show up and write reports for the most part. I'd rather be able to exact vengeance myself, in a perfect world.

Because it gives them another point of contact to get you into the system. Thats really all modern law enforcement is about, on the streets.
End proactive policing and I think you get more trust in cops.
