My only jury duty was criminal / child molester / school case. He is rotting in a 45-year sentence. My head rests well at night.
He was molesting the kids on school campus? Horrible no matter where, but that’s evil

was a dude from MS that is licensed in both LA and MS because the retired couple was from MS but it happened in LA. Full-on MS cotton-pickin' corn pone bs persona, like a bad caricature of what someone would expect a lawyer from MS to act like. I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't spent a week watching it. But I'm not going to name him, sorry.
The entire system is made up of mostly dumb people.
It's not the best and the brightest like we pretend.

Sat on a 2 day trial of a meth maker and while finally in deliberation he made a plea. Was kinda annoyed at that. At least we were treated right and the judge fed us a good lunch both days, 24th JDC.

wouldn't share too many details of the case publicly
Why? You have no obligation to keep anything quiet after the verdict

I wasn’t picked, but I was one of the people chosen originally. I left that day and told my wife that if I am ever arrested for anything, that she needs to sell the house, the cars and anything else she can for me to not have a court appointed lawyer. The defense lawyer was dumb as a box of rocks and every point she made was received horribly because it was dumb and her presentation of it was horrendous. I felt like I knew the defendant committed the crime and I still felt bad for him not having a chance. He was ultimately convicted.

Wouldn’t all or most of that be public record anyway?
Yes, but if I were to say something that could be misconstrued that could be twisted as "racial bias" I don't want to get entangled in drama like that

Mine was a case where they took custody of a kid and gave it the family that had been raising the kid for the last 2 years. The mother's lawyer made a passionate case that the mom was just not at a good point when they took the kid and put in foster home but the thing that decided it was the mother did not show up to testify. We found for the state and gave custody to the foster family who was stable and had the kid and was raising correctly.
It was still hard though, we debated a lot when it came time to decide as we wanted to give the mother all the benefits of any doubt but she was a no show and that made a huge impact

I got selected as a juror in a murder/ attempted murder trial about 1 week after my first kid was born. It went more than a week and my wife was pissed I didn't try harder to get out of doing it. I definitely should have tried harder but it was a really cool and eye-opening experience.
A 19 year old named Carl Quiller Jr was on trial for shooting 3 people, killing one of them. He shot at and robbed two one night. They were a homeless couple and were sleeping just off the road near the woods. The next night he shoots and kills a third person who was a homeless dude sleeping in his car in a parking lot. They caught him because he called the police pretending to have stumbled upon the guy in his truck (who was still alive at the time) that he had just shot. When interviewed he started talking about the couple being shot at the night before going in to more detail than anyone could possibly know. The police end up getting a warrant to search his house where they find a gun that matches the bullets at both crime scenes.
It took us only a couple hours to deliberate and there wasn't much push back on a guilty charge to all counts. The guy got life without parole.
I could tell the defense lawyer wasnt great at his job, but he had so little to work with there was no way he stood a chance.

I was selected once out of the few times I had to go, the guy is at Angola for life. That’s if he’s still breathing. Aggravated rape of his 8 year old niece. From start to finish it lasted 3 days, but the State of Louisiana proved without a shadow of a doubt he was guilty as sin. The details of what he did to that child messed with my head for quite some time after it was over.
In Louisiana if the victim of aggravated rape is under 13 the death penalty is on the table, or at least it was in 2011.

homeschool my children and I cannot get out of it. What is your excuse? I barely got out of jury duty when I was 9 months pregnant.
In Orleans Parish they can't prove you ever got the Jury Duty Notice since it is sent snail mail to your house-------no registered letter needing to be signed to prove you got it.

Not anymore. SCOTUS said no.

I was on this civil case , “Hillenburg v. Morris.” Hillenburg, was suing a small business owner Morris, claiming he was unjustly fired from her custom T-shirt printing company. Hillenburg allegedly showed up to work intoxicated and caused a series of workplace mishaps. He insists he was either set up or misunderstood. It was a crazy case . The other jurors were weird AF. I think there was one washed up celeb in the pool with me.
