The news doesn't typically report on suicides.

The guy jumped from the 10th floor of the parking garage.

I've been to the top of that garage. The height seems high enough to where you have a 50/50 chance of living or dying. Could've at least picked something higher

Eta: Idk much about jumping off of buildings. It just doesn't seem that high when you're up there

They typically don't publicize things like that.

When I was a teenager I hyrdoplaned my truck and rear-ended another truck. Totaled mine. Traffic was insane. I was maybe 5 miles from my parent's house and it took my dad over 2 hours to get there. I overheard one of the cops say:

"Yeah, all this is because some guy is threatening to jump off the Mississippi River bridge. They should have pushed the son of a bitch off for all the trouble he caused."

I was still freaked out because it was my first wreck, but the next day, I laughed my arse off when I remembered it.

saw a special on people who survived jumping off the golden gate bridge
they pretty much all said as soon as they jumped they had regretted what they did
seems a terrible way to go

A lady jumped off a local hospital parking garage in Alexandria recently too. Something about her boyfriend dumping her. She left a 6 y/o kid behind. Patient's families in icu waiting saw her jump.

My girlfriend was one of the nurses in the Post labor that day. She was the nurse for a girl who just had her baby, and just happened to be good friends with that girl. The patient had just talked to the girl earlier that day, and she seemed like everything was normal. Needless to say, it was a crazy day at the hospital.

I have read a lot about those who jump there.

Notably, they average around 250 a year. Also, CHP assigns personnel to the bridge specifically to look for and talk down jumpers.

Yea, frick that job.

I don't know if it was ever true, but it seems like I have heard this happen a few times over the years. I remember hearing about a guy jumping off one of the casino boats into the river. I wonder if they go in needing a certain amount of money for something that got themselves into and it is an all or nothing situation. They will either hit it big or lose it all & if they lose it all they already predetermined they will jump?

There is a documentary called " The Bridge " . The producers set up cameras and documented 23 of 24 known suicides in 2004. LINK The video is on YouTube. Hour and a half long. Pretty interesting.

I managed every cubic yard of concrete, auger cast piling, exterior stucco, etc placed/ installed in that parking garage in 2008. The Miss River could jump the levee for 100 years and that building would still be standing.
