Every hippy in that crowd voted for the policies ruining the bay area now.

Knew what this was about from the date and place.
Grest version. Amazing how those Southern misogynists made all those west coast women buy tickets and cheer in front of the stars & bars at that.

Would have hands down been the greatest band ever if not for the crash.

America had so much potential.

My dad saw them open for the Stones and said they blew the Stones off the stage. And he was a huge Stones fan. Only saw them once and always said it was the best live performance he ever saw, and he was a 60's hippie and saw a lot of concerts.

My parents were there. My dad is briefly visible.

Bill Graham’s “Day on the Green “. I attended several in the late 70s and early 80s. Great show.

all the white people left oakland from that day on.

Was this the apex of American society?

I bet the demographics have changed dramatically.

Not a fat person in attendance.

40 million+ views on YT. With "the flag" clearly visible.
Check out the new CD/blu ray combo pack of Skynyrd Live at Knebworth '76. Unfortunately the video is not as good as that Oakland footage, but the audio is amazing and you are getting the full show. They opened for the Stones in front of an estimated 150,000+ fans.
Also check out the new Skynyrd plane crash memorial in Gillsburg, MS.
This band was the Southern Led Zeppelin.

Bunch of braless women without pounds of makeup on, baw with a Bud heavy sitting on top the piano, southern rock... I'm jealous.
It's almost jarring to see a crowd of people in Oakland cheering on a band with the battle flag hung behind them. Amazing how different things are today.

And only 4 months later…

Tough question. I have always thought the 70's were the apex of American music. But the economy was in the tank for most of the 70's and politically we were a mess, much like today.
Our exit from Vietnam was a disaster and crime in American cities was off the charts.
Of course none of that holds a candle to what is happening today. I think the 80's were better in general, but not musically.

Heading to Baton Rouge for a concert and crashed in Miss. I know a few folks out here that knew the Van Zant's when they were growing up in the Westside of Jacksonville.
