Hopefully it's business and not to see that area because it won't be worth it. Even if it opens.

Main purpose is to brew hop and go to the Oregon Brewer's Festival. But I'm glad someone who lives there chimed in about it because I was trying yesterday to find what was open and closed along the scenic highway.

Is it safe to assume that Oneonta Gorge is closed as well? Namely the short hike over the log jam and through the water to the fall. That was one thing to the east that I wanted to show my buddies that are coming with me.

What’s a reasonable amount to expect him to do?
Even blasting 12 hours on a Saturday would take him over 3 years

It's closed. I believe I saw 1 hike is open and it's 15 min past Oneonta.

That's one that I seriously doubt gets open this summer but who knows, it is a family favorite. I can imagine how many trees have fallen in that little canyon.

I love that "hike".

I'd love to do this to someone like this. Athletes are always given a pass. Making them see how bad they fricked up is the best policy.

So what are the odds that we see this come around in a few years and because he got a jay walking ticket in 2024 they won’t forgive the money

This is a stupid ruling for someone who committed a terrible act. I’ve been to the area where the fire occurred and it will be beyond any of our lifetimes to get it anywhere near what it looked like before.

This kid is getting a slap on the wrist for something he should be doing jail time for.

But that’s Oregon.

So if as a minor you owe $37mm, do you just become a welfare queen? What’s the point of trying to work to pay that?

It won't be in my lifetime. I'll never see it like I remember it.

I'm glad they made this harsh enough to send a message. Need to do this with many more crimes.

You sad? I was FORCED to hike the WA side last summer. That's a bummer and an extra 30 min drive.

But seriously, it's totally fricked. Will take at least 20 years before it's decent again. By decent I'm not expecting much. I hike through other areas of the state that were burned and it's been 15 years and only the undergrowth is there.

The ruling is probably the best. Making him have a feeling of hopelessness will drive the point home.

Watch the news lately? Hopefully this kid takes online only classes.

Is it harsh though? The kid obviously doesn't have $37m and never will. He'll just be poor for 10 years. Someone who intentionally starts a wildfire would probably end up being poor anyway.

That's absurd. Had this been started by lightning the entire board would be touting nature's ability to naturally purge and regrow to prevent future fire.

I think you're going to be surprised with how the area bounces back.

Watching the re-birth of that forest is going to be very exciting. Within 5 years, you'll hardly know a fire was there.

There are burn scars where I used to live in Southern Oregon from fires 30 years ago that look like the fire was last year. Just small undergrowth among dead and charred trees.

Granted. Park Service and State Crews will work constantly to speed up the recovery process in the Gorge, but I’ll be dead and gone without ever getting to see it the way I did.

You can still the remnants and scars from when Yellowstone burned in 1988.

Stupid humans don't realize that fire is actually good for the ecosystem. The kid did the environment a favor. They should be paying him.

If these jack-legs would just run a prescribed burn every now and again, it would eliminate these huge forest fires. They're too dumb to do that though.
