You can still the remnants and scars from when Yellowstone burned in 1988.
But is Yellowstone any less beautiful now than it was pre-1988?
And Yellowstone was badly overdue for a large wildfire by 1988.
My 5 years comment was off-base, yes, but the Columbia River Gorge will eventually make a full recovery.

I won't be. I've seen enough fire damage to have an idea.

Within 5 years, you'll hardly know a fire was there.
Hardly.
This is after a burn 15 years ago.

Should've run prescribed burns. The knowledge that a tree-hugger and typical resident carry isn't enough to allow the state to manage their timberlands properly. So, you end up with these huge fires. It's your own fault. I don't feel bad at all.
Eta: The reason it has such a hard time coming back is because the top strata of soil isn't dense at all, and the fire heated that and the layer underneath it up. That killed a lot of nutrients, but it should come back heavily filled with new growth once the nutrients get back into the soil

You do realize they likely already do prescribed burns?
They do prescribed burns in northern AZ forests. Doesn’t stop large forest fires completely.

Controlled burns happen everywhere in the state but not on state parks property.
There wasn't a burn there til a kid was throwing fireworks.
Eta...this state has wild fires every year. Of course there are controlled burns every spring.
Just not there.

Out of anyone on TD, I'm not the one to argue with about managing timberlands. I have two entire textbooks about prescribed burns sitting on my bookshelf 30ft away

I agree that they should do controlled burns to get rid of underbrush and dead trees.
Don't have any on my PC, but my wife has some crazy pictures of that fire. Her grandfather was working Federal Wildlife Management at Yellowstone at the time. She sat on his roof in West Yellowstone and watched it burn.

You are truly an enigma. I want to drink a PBR with you one day.

All these really do is slow a fire down, they don’t stop wildfires.

Yet you think Oregon doesn't do controlled burns.

Maybe no one in Oregon has the textbooks that he has?

Nothing is uniform in this so called justice system.
They tried that already with mandatory sentencing and you ended up with school kids with a joint doing hard time. No one liked that either so they have mostly gone back to judges discretion. Our system might have flaws but it is the best thing going in the history of mankind.

Weyerhauser and the feds should contact him and get in the know.

I'd like to see their schedule, patterns, style, etc. If they do them there, I can't tell you if they do them properly or not. Obviously a firework shouldn't start a huge blaze. That is a bad burn schedule

Are you blind or just obtuse?
Go up and read.

On a board filled to the brim with know-it-alls, you reign supreme. You are so full of shite your eyes are brown.

The kid’s community service should be hard labor in the state parks. Make him see the damage he has done on a repeated basis.
I would say have him help rebuild home/structures....but from the article sounds like the kid is very much hated. Kid could get hurt or killed by a homeowner.
