University is a Level 1 trauma center.

Why did they take him to UMC and not WJ?
If the injury is very severe I would guess they need to get him to the trauma center at UMC.

Prayers sent.

There aren't to many hospitals in the USA better equipped to deal with gunshot trauma patients

According to a store clerk at the Dunkin Donuts, 2301 Manhattan Boulevard, an officer was shot near the store.
The clerk told WWL-TV the shooting happened "right outside the door."

Yeah. We took a field trip there. If my life was on the line, I'd say screw hospitals thatre closer. And doesn't UMC have a helipad?

That, or they suddenly hit their brakes because they remember it's there.
I do 35 with the bird out the window every time I pass one. Gretna has really improved over the last decade as far as restaurants and festivals but I still find myself avoiding the Expressway and Lafayette St because of the traps.
I apologize for steering away from the main topic. I hope these frickers get what they deserve. Prayers for the officer.

I'm hearing officer was shot at 12:30 but that has to be off. shite was shut down by several police departments and already had St Bernard cops patrolling Manhattan by then. Barataria was apparently shut down already at that time too.
ETA: I'm wondering if this was a sting gone bad.
