There's a cut off the West Pearl called Peach Lake, we were fishing it a few summers ago, when you looked up, the canopy was nothing but banana spiders...

Went from zero of these 3 years ago to thousands now. Every shrub, tree and power line has them. Had to add spider sticks to front of all the SXS

Is that a banana spider? We've been having spider sticks for many years here in LA

We have been ate up with these in Georgia for years. You cannot walk through any patch of woods without exerting a moderate amout of effort to avoid them and their huge webs. As far as I know they don't cause any damage but may make you hurt yourself if one gets on you.

I've only recently been seeing babies this season. Last season they weren't as bad. Two years ago was unbelievably nightmarish, as was the year before that. They only made it here about 5 or 6 years ago.

They say ground zero was an Amazon warehouse in Braselton, and they have slowly migrated out from there. When they first show up in your area, they are insane for a couple years, then population starts to drop off.

For the morons in this thread- these are not the native Banana spiders or Orb weavers you grew up with. These are Joro spiders, an invasive species from Asia.

And they aren't harmless. They have a very powerful venom, typically not life threatening but can sting like a wasp sting.
