Joining California, New York law phases out most gas-powered vehicles by 2035

Will be interesting to see how this works out.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation on Wednesday that effectively bans the sale of new internal combustion engine cars, off-road vehicles, light-duty trucks and equipment by 2035.
quote:
The legislation, introduced by New York state senator Pete Harckham, also requires new heavy- and medium-duty trucks for sale in New York to be in the “zero-emissions” category by 2045.
quote:
According to the website of New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation, the state defines zero-emission vehicles as: battery-electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles, or hydrogen fuel-cell-electric vehicles.
quote:
The new law could be a shot in the arm for automakers selling or planning electric vehicles, including Tesla, start-ups like Lucid Motors and Rivian, and incumbents like Volkswagen and GM that have shifted their focus to battery-powered electrics to meet consumer demand and comply with stricter environmental regulations.

New York is following California’s earlier efforts to shift drivers into zero-emission vehicles. As CNBC previously reported, Governor Gavin Newsom signed an executive order in September 2020 that would phase out all sales of new internal combustion engine vehicles in the state by 2035.

Great, just what the south needs: more fleeing liberal carpetbaggers.

An article in 2034 with the headline: "Joining California, New York delays ban of traditional vehicles until 2040"

I would be surprised if there is ever an outright ban because 15-20 years from now EVs will largely be seen as the best available on the market. Most new car buyers will be buying evs anyway by 2040 or so.

I'm sure the demand will be the greatest on the gulf coast, especially after a major storm hits.

Technology advances constantly.
Maybe we'll be better at generating electricity by then.

Just imagine if the retards didn't protest nuclear back in the 70's. Climate change wouldn't be a topic.

What is their backup plan if the grid goes down due to weather or any other issue? Gas can physically be transported. They gonna be shipping giant battery banks in?

That's why all you idiots should start investing in EV companies.

Enquiring minds want to know
Should be fine in California though, they never have power grid issues.

You soy people rejected advances in technology decades ago, which is why we are in the shape we are in now.

Right, because the basic laws of electricity will change by then.
