Is there anything they DON'T do well?

I absolutely love their version of The King Is Gone.

"This may be the best damn song you've ever heard. Or... it may not. I don't really care."

Speaking of Willie Nelson, he shouldn't have been on that stage last night at the CMA's. Guy can barely breathe, much less sing.

Traveling wilburys were every bit as good as the highwaymen, just a different genre.

I saw him on a fairly recent (as in this year) Austin City Limits. He most definitely should consider retirement.

I like Part 2 of Highwayman (it's on the 2nd album and is called "American Remains".

Anyway, the Waylon character is a riverboat cardsharp who is thrown overboard:
quote:

I am a river gambler
I make a living dealing cards
My clothes are smooth and honest
My heart is cold and hard
I was shuffling for some delta boys
On a boat for New Orleans
I was the greatest shark they'd ever seen
But the captain bumped a sandbar
And an ace fell from my sleeve
They threw me overboard
As I swore I didn't cheat
But I could swim
And I'll ride again

That's the big reveal about his immortality...he could swim!

I like them all, but as a "band", they are a fart in the wind to those I listed and many others

They are nothing like the groups you mentioned.

They are 4 absolute Superstars who got together and went on tour together and recorded a couple albums. And they were awesome.

But no, I guess they weren't the greatest group ever. Because they weren't a group.

I'm nearly positive it is a "dam" builder...not a "damn builder". With the first one, he builds dams. With the second, he is interjecting about his profession in construction.

This is a brave statement. And true. But just like telling the literary crowd that The Fountainhead is garbage or older people that American-made cars are inferior to Foreign-made ones, you'll get a lot dirty looks by claiming such.

Kristofferson

Such disrespect. Sunday Morning Coming Down and The Pilgrim are some of tGOAT

See him wasted on the sidewalk in his jacket and his jeans
Wearin' yesterday's misfortunes like a smile
Once he had a future full of money, love, and dreams
Which he spent like they was goin' outta style
And he keeps right on a-changin' for the better or the worse
Searchin' for a shrine, he's never found
Never knowin' if believin' is a blessin' or a curse
Or if the goin' up was worth the comin' down

He's a poet and he's a picker, he's a prophet and he's a pusher
He's a pilgrim and a preacher and a problem when he's stoned
He's a walkin' contradiction, partly truth and partly fiction
Takin' every wrong direction on his lonely way back home

He has tasted good and evil in your bedrooms and your bars
And he's traded in tomorrow for today
Runnin' from his devils, Lord, and reachin' for the stars
And losin' all he's loved along the way
But if this world keeps right on turnin' for the better or the worse
And all he ever gets is older and around
From the rockin' of the cradle to the rollin' of the hearse
The goin' up was worth the comin' down

Never very famous, but here's another one of my favorite Kristofferson songs:

You ask me if I'm happy now
That's good as any joke I've heard
It seems since I've seen you last
I done forgot the meanin' of the words
If happiness is empty rooms
And drinkin' in the afternoon
Well I suppose I'm happy as a clown
But if it's got a thing to do
With smilin' of forgettin' you
Well I don't guess that I could say I am

Chorus: Did you ever see a down and outer waking up alone
Without a blanket on to keep him from the dew
When the water from the weeds it soaked the papers
He been puttin' in his shoes to keep the ground from coming through
And his future feels as empty as the pockets in his pants
Because he's never seen a single dream come true
That's the way that I've been feeling since the day I started falling
From the bottle to the bottom stool by stool
Learning hard to live with losin' you

You wonder if I'm better off
With freedom now to do the things I choose
With all my times my own and
I got nothing left but sleeping time to lose
There's no one here to carry on
If I stay out the whole night long
Or give a tankerous damn if I don't call
I'm living like I wanted to
And doing things I wanna do
And nothing means a thing to me at all

Chorus
