Very few can. Americana/folk/country just seems to attract the best songwriters. Guy Clark, Townes van Zandt, Blaze Foley, Jason Isbell, Bob Dylan, etc.,

One of the great singer songwriters!

Co-wrote the greatest country song of all time. Steve Goodman got all of the credit for “You never even call me by my name”, but wouldn’t let Goodman correct it. Steve Goodman took his royalty check and bought Prine a vintage jukebox filled with John’s favorite tunes.

My thoughts and prayers go out for John while I put “Bruised Orange” on the turntable.

The whole initial eponymous album is just loaded. Hard to believe he wrote all of those in his early 20's just doing a mail route.

The depth of feeling and affection for the elderly you hear in "Hello in There" shouldn't have come from such a young man.
