unless there's some weird contractual thing with Nathan's i don't think entering a vegan contest means he is now officially a vegan and hates Nathan's.
but it's probably some contract he has that triggered this.

I thought that at first, but like someone else said, it actually might make it way more fun to watch if competitors are neck and neck. Gives you someone to cheer for like a close horse race.
I love watching every year, but Joey is so far and away past everyone that it certainly doesn't feel like you're watching a competition against anyone but his own personal high score.

Believe so.
Chestnut's fake meat company or someone like Ballpark Franks should sponsor Chestnut vs Kobayashi at same time as Nathan's on Youtube or Twitter and I'm sure it would get more viewers than Nathan's.

Yeah he wouldn't join the Major League Eating because he's not American and he liked doing his own thing in Japan. Major League Eating is run by two brothers that wanted to monopolize eating competitions in the US. They ran Nathan's event prior to starting MLE. So they screwed Koby and anyone else who didn't want to join MLE from competing in Nathan's.
He's not exactly banned, he just can't compete until he joins MLE which he doesn't want to do because he mostly stays in Japan and doesn't want to be controlled by some US organization.
