I would say if you can manage with a 30% deduction in household income the decision shouldn't be a hard one at all.

It’s not really that complicated. You still have a job to do with performance objectives/goals. People just aren’t clock watching.

As I said earlier it’s going to become more common. Employers don’t have to carry PTO, employees actually take less time off and feel more valued...resulting in greater productivity.

Commissioned jobs pay more generally speaking. Guaranteed salaries make for a less stressful life imo. Pros/cons for both.

Commission pays more for sure but I have a monetary value on Work/Life balance as you mentioned.

That's basically contract work isn't it? Or do you mean you can stay home as many days in a row as you want and get paid full salary with no recourse for not working ever?

I know my company does not give a shite if you stay home for the day but your arse better be at 100% billable hours by the end of the year.

I agree with you, I would take less money for guaranteed salary for sure as long as it was reasonably close.

It's not that complicated man. You have "unlimited" time off as in you don't have x number of PTO days. You need to go to the doctor, take the day off. You need to take your kid to practice, leave early. It's not accounted for on a time sheet. You still have goals, objectives, and work standards you have to meet. You Obviously aren't going to do that if you don't go to work. Companies don't have to keep PTO accounts on their book which cuts a cost, and employees don't feel pressured to not take time off creating higher productivity and morale.

What are you talking about? You can’t just not show up lol. You still are getting time off approved and/or notifying your boss for extended illnesses, long vacations, etc.

There’s just not a bank of hours it’s being pulled from.

A good example of this would be on Dec 15th you’ve completed your monthly objectives and annual goals. Instead of wasting away in the office for the next two weeks, you can go home.

Sure, that exists where billable hours applies.
Its also becoming common in tech companies than need exceptional talent. Positions where employees are developing and creating, not answering phones and changing passwords. I'm talking actual talent - not reboot monkeys.

Unlimited vacation jobs typically have no issue letting you go fast if you don't meet your deadlines or not performing. They won't just sit there and let you take vacation and not do your work.

Hard working employees end up taking less vacation with this system and are happier. They don't feel like they have to take vacation or lose those leave hours every year.

not quite a cut, in base it is, but it is a sales position similar to what i am doing now. i just dont get commission anymore do to a company restructure, just a larger salary.

you’re working sales and you expect the company will say “you’ve finished everything you needed to do, go take a week off this month”? There’s never an end to work in sales. You won’t see any more than normal vacation

If your worth your salt you should make a lot more money on commission vs high salary. Sales is where the big money if you are good. Fact.

i think you are missing the point. you are right sales are never ending, but if i am sick one day, need to take care of my kid, or hell just take off a friday to go watch auburn lose in baton rouge to for millionth consecutive time, i can. that is the point of unlimited vacation. not take off a week per month. but if i did want to take a week or two of real vacation per year, then i can do that as well.
