Wife was in a similar situation. She took a pay cut for a smaller salary, but higher potential commissions. The new job was more flexible as well. She hasn't looked back.

I have the same deal as an operations manager. The owners and I know what the profit margins should be and as long as they are acceptable and customers don't call them raising hell I can take as much paid time off as I want. I just came off of recovering from a surgery for 6 weeks that not only did they pay my salary, they paid my truck allowance as well.
Some people are just great to work for

it is and thats the struggle i am dealing with. the potential for more is so much greater.
