New York Jets assistant coach Greg Knapp, who has tutored some of football's most noted quarterbacks, was in critical condition on Tuesday following a bicycle crash in Northern California, his agent and wife said.

The 58-year-old Knapp, an avid bicyclist who makes his offseason home in Danville, was riding on Saturday when a motorist swerved into the bike lane and hit the veteran coach in nearby San Ramon, agent Jeff Sperbeck said.

The driver stopped to render aid, according to Sperbeck.

Please pay attention out there, get off your phones and keep your eyes on the road.

It is a dangerous time to be a cyclist. If I happened to be one, I believe I would strongly consider another hobby or form of exercise.

My son got hit a few years ago by an idiot college chick that was on her phone. Luckily he came away just scraped to hell and bruised.

He was in a bike lane. Maybe drivers who can't pay attention and have to look at their cell phones while operating a vehicle should stop driving on regular roads.

Road cyclists are idiots at this point considering how distracted drivers are. At least half of the people I see driving are literally surfing the internet while driving.

Get on a mt bike and hit the trails. Trees don’t move.

Hitting a tree going +20mph doesn't feel great either unfortunately

Rocks too! I split my knee open two years ago in Utah. And I broke my foot a couple of years before that.

I have a friend whose dad died while mountain biking with him.

True. I’ve hit them on a my bike and dirt bike. But they don’t jump in front of you so if you do hit them it’s only your own dumbass you have to blame.

Truth is most road bikers don’t have skills to ride off road. I lol when I see these old fricks 60lvs over weight jammed into tights. Like yeah, you really need the aerodynamics afforded by tights.

Should be automatic execution for anyone who hurts or kills someone because they were on their phone while driving

cycling shorts have padding to protect your junk, which is actually much more important that aerodynamics - but carry on.

Large part of the reason why I have transitioned to indoor riding/racing.

Sad. People can't even keep their vehicles in their lane anymore.

In Lafayette, go down West Bayou and look how many drive in the bike lane. Or just go to an intersection with a double left and watch how many cross out of their lanes when making the turn.

You can get that is a compression undershort. Now explain the cycling jerseys 5x too small and branded with fake sponsors.

Why do you care what other people wear so much?
