This dumbass commercial

The message might have been fine, but the delivery was insulting. I stopped using Gillette before this commercial came out so I wasn't necessarily offended, it just reaffirmed my decision.

I have no idea why that commercial would offend anyone. Any grown man has seen at least one of those scenarios and to think that they are ok shows me how insecure the younger American male really is.

It’s just a commercial about bullying. Have you ever been bullied? Have you ever seen bullying? Are you a bully? Because that would be the only person I could see being offended.

It talks about men being good men. Do you think all the men buried in France shown in the other thread would be offended by this? I can answer for the WWII soldier I grew up with, my father, and he would not be offended. He hated a fricking bully more than he hated the Japanese he fought against all over the South Pacific and he taught all of his sons to not tolerate it either. And we don’t.

All the offended men act like Gillette stepped on their tampon string.

This country needs to grow the frick up.

Might as well just pay for pussy, son, it's clear nobody's giving it to you.

Well I just turned 74 and I’m still fricking so I have that going for me.

But I have paid for pussy. We all have.

The average price of a Superbowl ad in 2021 was 5.5 million for 30sec. If I were a shareholder, my first question is how many extra razors this ad is selling, regardless of trans/animalistic/super straight the message is.

If it doesn't sell more product, it's a waste of shareholder money/profit. But we know it's not about that. That is the core of the problem in publicly traded companies, and it didn't come from within their own accounting departments. ESG or die!

Brand value of Gillette has decreased nearly 20% in 2 years (below 2017 values). Win? I don't pay a ton of attention since I haven't used HandJob razors in over five years, but that isn't winning.

I feel like Gillette is dependent upon generational transference and not product quality for market share. In other words, my dad drank Coors Light, so I'll drink Coors Light.

I'd like build the first mutual fund that's composed entirely of anti-ESG companies.

I mean, the numbers don't lie. Politically neutral company stocks outperform companies that try to increase their ESG score.

I get that. But this wasn’t about gender identity, ethnicity, race. It was just a commercial targeted at their core consumer, men, and how men can pay attention and elevate themselves.

I don’t see the offense. Is it a slippery slope to the other mentioned ? Perhaps. To sell razors? Not really. Just a social awareness from a corporate ad team. It happens all the time for whatever cause-religion, national disaster, abandoned dogs. It’s no different and I just think it’s a bit presumptuous to be so entitled that we are hurt and angry or claim to be.

This isn’t woke. Bud Light is woke. Big difference.

You’ll find most people suggest Feather Hi-Stainless. I don’t dislike them, but they’re double to 2.5x the price of Astra Hi-Stainless, and Astra has been my go-to for a decade now.

Bonus points: Taylor of Old Bond Street Royal Forest shaving cream has a really nice scent.

It's the way to go. This is what I have been using for years:

I’ve used a Merkur Futur on its most wide-open setting for about 8 years now almost exclusively. I have a Muhle r41 as well because I really hate the polished handle- gnarled is just so much nicer to hold. I’ve let my facial hair grow as long as about 6 weeks with just keeping the edges of it neatly trimmed, but once I’ve had enough, this thing can take me down to smooth about as quickly as it gets rid of day-old stubble. The r41 has a reputation as one of the most aggressive razors in existence, but I don’t think there’s a comparison between the two.the Futur is more aggressive with a bigger blade gap, and there are a fair number of videos that comment on how little “tugging” there is with it vs the r41 just due to the weight of the thing.

Great razor- there is a knockoff version from China for half or less of Merkur’s price- never touched one.
Most the places to get info will knock razors made of “pot metal” instead of stainless steel (or, heaven forbid, rhodium-plated or some other “nice” metal), and these are two of them. But I’m not really interested in “prestige” and find them plenty practical enough and, while on the higher end of price for a razor, worth the money and reasonable.

I did, for some reason, decide to buy the stupid thing in gold though. There was once a gold brush that matched it that hasn’t been in stock and rarely pops up on eBay. I want that stupid thing.

Unfortunately Gillette's 7 O clock SS are my favorites but I've been using Astra ss. But feathers are great just the higher price for them and sharp as hell

Voskhod (sp?) make a really good razor for the price

The multiple bundles really are the best way to find your personal preference

I’m a dollar shave guy. I haven’t kept up though. Are they woke? If so, I’d switch to Jeremy’s if it’s a comparable affordable substitute.

Unfortunately, Gillette is the only razor and Edge Gel is the only product that does not cause razor burn. I’ve tried so many different brands. Have to stick with what works.

Best Double Edge Safety Razors

Made the switch a few years ago and haven’t looked back. Save a ton of money (10-15 cents a blade) and actually enjoy shaving now. Way less irritation.
