It could be that they have some sort of collateral on them, and not just NDAs they signed for money.
Look at how things like NXIVM and Scientology work…they have you reveal secrets as part of your “treatment” or “awakening” and/or get compromising pictures of you.
Or maybe even being a wrangler or participate in some of the nefarious activities, sort of how the Girls Do Porn guys had girls help recruit/dupe the ones that got videoed.
It’s possible some of the same stuff was going on here. They can’t come forward with blatant details out of fear of being exposed for something they have done.
ETA: Plus, the usual victimizer/victim control dynamics that you see out in the “normal world.”
