Is it legal to take the doors off and only have the rear view mirror and no side mirrors?

I'd assume so seeing as all the frat lords at LSU take their doors off

Be careful you don't mess with the master link.

From what I've read on the jeep forums is that it's legal in some states to have them off and illegal in others.

You can buy aftermarket mirrors made specifically for the jeep doors being removed that will make it legal in any state though for a reasonably small amount.

I think you have to have at least two mirrors to be legal but not to many LEOs will stop you. I bought a set of motorcycle mirrors really cheap and welded a bolt on the bottom side to fit the hinge and it has worked for me for 10 years. You can find a set of Harley mirrors which should fit the door hinge and tighten perfectly for cheaper than most of the auxiliary mirror kits.

agreed. i just got my jeep so i haven't even done it yet. but a buddy of mine has had his for a year and he rides exclusively without doors or side rear view mirrors. never been stopped.

i think it's one of those things that most cops are gonna let slide... assuming they even know the law on it. strong probability a large portion of them don't even realize the law since it's obvious jeeps are made to run with the doors off.

They make relocation brackets. The guy I bought mine from had a set he gave me with the jeep. But it moves the mount up to the windshield area. I wouldn't go through the hassle of that every time I take my doors off. When I do, I just don't have mirrors. They sell cheap drop in mirrors that slide into he hinges after the doors are removed if you're that worried about it.

I drove one for 5 years and usually had the doors off. Never got stopped for it. Pretty sure it's technically illegal though.

The unlimited jeeps are a bitch to maneuver without the side mirrors.

Technically it's illegal and can be ticketed Also you won't get an inspection sticker without them on. I have never been pulled over or even asked about it when my doors were off.

Buy a CJ, no doors and you still have mirrors.

All of this.
Ive never been stopped and even had cops of various departments come up to me at gas stations while filling up commenting on my Jeep and never batted an eye about not having a mirror.

Law states that that you must have a drivers side mirror. Nothing else.

Technically illegal and I didn't want to give any cop and opportunity to pull me over. I installed some pre fab brackets and installed to body so you can use existing OEM mirrors.

I put one Harley black mirror on my driver side. Goes in the door hinge. Quik and easy no tools
