All depends on the state laws. In VA all I need is 2 rear facing mirrors, one on the inside and one on the outside of the vehicle.
For LA you have to have one the left side of the vehicle and one other (either inside or outside)

I am the second owner of a 83 CJ7 that my dad bought me as my first vehicle in 85 and Ive owed it ever since. Never been hassled by cops in any state about the mirrors when the doors are off and it's been form Hawaii to Cali and NC and all states in between. I think as long as you aren't doing other sketchy shite it's a non issue.

Yes. You can also remove the tailights and use hand signals.
