I'm looking at buying a Jeep Wrangler and have come across some disturbing wobble clips on youtube.

Is this wobble a major issue for any owners here?

I'm thinking of going to Carmax and doing their 24 hour free test drive to see for myself but anyone with experiences would be helpful.

That's what you get when you buy a used jeep that someone installed a cheap lift on.

It can happen with any solid front axle vehicle; it’s not Jeep specific. Ball joints and tie rods good? Give her the beans until they need to be replaced.

It’s an easy fix. Replace front upper and lower control arms, track bar and sway bar links.

About 3 hours of work and $400 if you do it yourself.

I was able to pick up a couple TJs for cheap when they scared the bejeezus out of the previous owner.

Yes it's a real thing and it can be a pain in the arse to resolve. It has to do with it being a solid front axle. When any of the front end components begin to wear out you can get the wobble occur. Unless you know what's worn you end up replacing everything. A new steering stabilizer will mask it for a while until it wears out the stabilizer. Worn/choppy tires also cause it. I have a Jeep TJ, last model of the real Jeeps, and have dealt with death wobble first hand. It's definitely an eye opener the first time it happens. You thing the entire thing is about to implode on you. You have to come to a slow stop then take off again and it'll go away. Jeeps are money pits by the way, but they're fun to drive. Make sure you have plenty rubber ducks and learn the wave. Good luck!

This would be a new purchase. Crazy to think this is an issue on brand new vehicles.

That's not how to fix it, that's how to mask it. Never buy a Jeep that has a shiny new steering stabilizer.

This happened to me in my old jeep. Nobody believed me for the longest time. It was scary as shite. Can’t imagine it’s still a thing though!

on coil springs. Ford and dodge 3/4 ton + on coils will do it, too.

New ones won’t do it. It happens when the bushings in the front end suspension components get brittle and wear out.

Had it on my Jeep after I installed the 2nd lift. The lower control arms are really important to have setup correctly, especially if you have installed adjustable ones like I did. There was a simple way to measure the adjustment using an angle finder on your front axle. I don’t remember the setting off the top of my head but once I set my front axle to the correct angle I was good to go.
