can happen with any solid front axle vehicle; it’s not Jeep specific. Ball joints and tie rods good? Give her the beans until they need to be replaced.

It’s a major problem with Ford F250 trucks. I have a friend who’s F250 developed it and Ford could never fix it. He ended up just trading it in.

Jeeps are shitty for far more reasons than just death wobble.

New ones won’t do it. It happens when the bushings in the front end suspension components get brittle and wear out.

If they still have solid front axles then they can develop death wobble.

The older it is and the more they've monkeyed with the tires and suspension the more chances of the death wobble. If this will be your daily driver (first I wouldn't have one as a DD), I look at buying a new one with a full warranty.

We had the death wobble. Insurance ended up paying to fix it, but it was never the same. We sold it.

Is this wobble a major issue for any owners here?

Stock Jeeps are designed for stock tires. Idiots throwing 35"s on a stock jeep without accounting for suspension, steering, and power are asking for trouble.

Caught in the Southwest Christmas apocalypse I was able to get a Jeep Wrangler four door rental. Looked pretty new.

A couple miles from the airport as I approached 65mph the thing shook violently. Had to return it at 7am the next day. Can't imagine having to deal with that BS.

Mine was bad until I got my tires balanced right.

Look up road force balance machine.

It actually puts pressure on the tire and flexes it while balancing.

I found a shop with one and they re balanced my tires. Instant fix. They gave me a printout before and after. They said the previous job was way the hell off.

Michelin also went through a bad batch of AT2 tires on thos trucks around 2016-2017 where a lot of the tires were unbalancable and they had to be warrantied

This would be a new purchase. Crazy to think this is an issue on brand new vehicles.

It's not.

It’s an easy fix. Replace front upper and lower control arms, track bar and sway bar links. About 3 hours of work and $400 if you do it yourself.

Agreed. Straightforward frond-end work should resolve it. Worked for me.

It’s not just Jeep. It’s related to the install of a suspension lift. Whoever installed it over tightened.

Death wobble is from out of balance tires and loose suspension components. It's blown way out of proportion.

Any recent year Jeep running factory components is going to be fine. Death wobble is real, but more of a myth out in the wild on stockers.

Most Jeeps that get it are beat up on or had crappy after market suspension products added.

Tires and wheels can come into play as well, but more than likely only if those are not stock.

I have had 3 Jeeps and never had death wobble. Last 2 running 4" lifts. Always replace parts with quality parts.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I’m looking at the extreme recon package which adds in a lift and 35 inch tires all from the factory.

I’d assume that those are fitted and balanced to avoid any wobble that an aftermarket set might cause, correct?

Yes it should all be setup to avoid DW. Like others have mentioned its always still a possibility down the road with a solid front axle on a lifted vehicle as your front axle components wear.

ETA - Do your research on tires. Certain offroad tires are prone to DW more so than others.

I bought a jeep Rubicon that was stock, not lifted or anything but the dealership put big mud terrain tires on it before they sold it to me. I got death wobble every time I got over 50mph, dealership ignored me for weeks and by the time they agreed to look at it, I was traumatized and refused to drive it even though they told me it was fixed after they rebalanced the tires. I sold it to Carmax 3 months later and took a 12k loss. It was not fun to drive AT ALL. It was the worst vehicle I ever purchased. It looked cool and had a nice interior but it was a disaster. It's terrifying to have the entire vehicle start wobbling and feel like it's falling apart under you when you're doing 65mph and hit a little bump on the road that sets it off. Trying to control it is impossible.

It’s not and the factory stabilizer is fine.
