Ah yes, there’s the WAFB breaking news alert to my phone right on cue. 13 cases of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children in Louisiana and 1 has died.

Most kids who get covid-19 will be completely asymptomatic
Around 1/5,000 who get covid, who actually will likely be asymptomatic from covid, will develop this inflammatory response AFTER they have beat the virus
Of those who get this inflammatory response, almost all will fully recover.
So, thats the facts
Also of note, almost all viruses can and sometimes do cause an inflammatory response in random children, but you likely wont hear that from the media.

There really should be no fear of this for parents
Extremely rare, and also extremely treatable. Parents should just take note of the symptoms because if your child is treated relatively early this is pretty simple to treat
Since this site will want to know, my wife is a pediatric nurse of 10 years and they have been grilled on this by parents left and right

I don't know if that's necessarily saying they're different, though.
They noticed an increase in cases for the month of April, then correlated that to the CoviD-19 outbreak by using antibody testing.
Is it still the case that only a percentage of these cases are testing positive for antibodies? Not that that would be conclusive for a few reasons.

Right. They haven't really pinned down what causes Kawasaki Disease, as far as my limited research has shown.
It appears 2-3 weeks after some infection...OR it appears 2-3 weeks after being exposed to some environmental allergen like spores or molds. Also coincides with the changing of the seasons. And kids in new homes, clean homes lacking germs, get it more often.
It's almost like all three things happened at once (seasons changed, infection out there, and infection causing people to disinfect like mad), and they're pinning it on the thing that is most scary...

I would say it’s definitely linked to covid. Our health system has definitely seen a slight rise in these cases, and a new virus strain likely would cause more of a reaction from ones immune system
But, it’s extremely rare and very treatable and no reason for panic at all

An uptick in these inflammatory type responses during a new virus outbreak with most of the patients with the inflammatory response testing positive for antibodies is a fairly strong link
Not everything covid related is a conspiracy. People and parents need to be made aware, but should not panic
