It continued to go down due to vaccinations and the original strain continuing to burn out. Then Delta came back, but with the vaccine rollout there should not have been as drastic a response.
Some people, specifically those in charge of most state and federal governments, can't or won't admit that Covid isn't going anywhere. It is endemic and you cannot save everyone from it. You offer them the vaccine and then you let them make their own choice as to what becomes of their life. It's abundantly clear that the vaccines work and work well, once you're vaccinated Covid restrictions should be over for you.

You don't have to go to Sweden to see that the mask mandate isn't controlling things.
Just look at every bordering state of LA. None of them have mask mandates. All of their cases are dropping just like ours.
There is no correlation that mandates do anything.

Here's the deal:
The extended mask mandate ends right before Halloween, so regardless of the numbers, he will extend "out of an abundance of caution".
That next one will end right before Thanksgiving, can't have that.
Then the next one before Christmas.
Then he has to make sure it goes through New Year's.
The mask mandate will be with us through 2021.
In NOLA it will stay through Mardi Gras imo.

He ended the last mandate when we had a positivity rate of <3% and 300ish people in the hospital.
We currently sit at 6% positivity and 900ish in hospital.
The precedent has been set.
If we hit those numbers by the end of October, I would love to hear his justification.

I've noticed a trend, anecdotal as it may be, that the pessimism and shitting on Louisiana by its own residents and expressed desires to move out of state has really picked up steam with JBE in office.
We have weekly threads on the OT about how people want to move out of Louisiana and Louisianan's in other states that moved there that shite on their home state. Those threads are happening with enough frequency that it can be considered a data point.
Sure I can remember some ribbing about Louisiana when Jindal was in office but it's really, really bad and worse under JBE.
Just goes to show you that the mood of the citizenry will always reflect the quality of the leadership currently in office.

Wasn't for Ida, I could say similar. Had to wear a mask at Wal-Mart & HD a few times. Not because they made me, just realized it nearby and would help me not have to smell the people as I shopped before my normal stores reopened

The most logical thing JBE could do but will not is require all medicaid recipients to be vaccinated to continue receiving benefits. The shot numbers would soar. All the opioid addicted would be first in line.
