Missing a class requirement, and no "Beta Club" or service merits.

My gpa was a 3.2

I agree with this as far as being paid. With all the money these goofy legislators make its a fricking joke. Yup a great idea tax beer and smokes . So more people will stop smoking which is good for their health but bad for the economy. I guess he thinks nobody is gonna quit drinking too.

interesting considering that TOPS began in 1998 and was retroactively offered back to those that graduated in 1997

Sure, let me reach back in my memory banks to give you a specific question that was asked on the ACT 22 years ago...No, I can't give you an example, but I do remember looking at some of the questions and realizing I had no clue how to solve it.

Then your school should be held responsible for not teaching baseline material. You shouldn't get a free pass for ignorance, though.

26 on tops and they thought it leaned heavy against minorities before this change. My guess is minority recipients will plunge.

Yes, you probably saw a few things that were above your head. There's a reason you didn't go to Harvard.

But to score less than a 26, you would need to not know a pretty decent amount on the ACT. And to earn a merit based scholarship, you should probably have to work hard enough to at least know a moderate amount of information required by the ACT.

I made A's in every math class in HS, typically acing every test given and despite taking the ACT four times, never made above a 23 in the math section. I took it that many times because I needed a minimum 25 in that section to qualify for the Air Force Academy.

My HS offered the following math courses for "college-prep" students: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Advanced Math. The Advanced Math class was really a joke (taught by our football coach).

Are they raising the gpa that needs to be maintained to keep tops? That seems to be a more important issue.

You can get a 20 by guessing A, B, C, D all throughout the test.

This is so completely wrong I don't know why you would even make it up. A 20 on the ACT corresponds to about 53% correct answers LINK. You would expect to get <25% correct guessing randomly (3 sections have 4 answer choices, one has 5 choices). To get >50% correct would be astronomically unlikely.

This is fresh coming from a citizen of one of the dumbest states in the country. Yea, Louisiana will hold the schools responsible for being shitty......

Granted it's only one college, but that's the best I could find on short notice.

LINK

quote:

U.S. News became a leader in this area of measuring graduation rate performance when we first published these performance scores and used them as part of the Best Colleges rankings for the National Universities and National Liberal Arts Colleges ranking categories, starting with the 1997 rankings and as part of our ranking methodology annually since then. Higher education research shows that students with high SAT and ACT exam scores are more likely to graduate from college. Conversely, students with low scores are less likely to complete their degrees. Thus, a school enrolling a freshman class with a high SAT or ACT test score average has a better chance of seeing a large percentage of students graduate, while a freshman class with a low average ACT or SAT score tends to produce a lower percentage of graduates.

LINK

Here's another one. I'm not going to convert SAT to ACT, but it still shows the higher the score, the better your chance to graduate.

I agree. Gpa should mean way more than tops because your gpa actually matters.

That sounds like a you problem. If you want full tuition, you might have to do a modicum of preparation outside of school.

Look, I hear you on the math section. It was my worst by far. But this isn't a "get a 26 in math or no TOPS for you" situation.

Got a 23 in math? No problem. Excel in other areas and you've easily got a 26 composite.

Also, your high school's "college prep" is what my high school called "remedial math"
