I would assume the logical thing to do would have them already grandfathered in, but we are talking about Louisiana here.

How many Southern freshman had a 26 on their ACT?

So basically zero funding then.

Don't know. How many?

JBE is a total douche, but this is a good move. TOPS should never have had such low standards

Making TOPS that selective means that it will be even more of an "LSU" scholarship and thus more difficult to defend politically. JBE's supporters want TOPS gone completely.
As far as the governor.....JBE is demanding cuts to TOPS, higher Ed, and hospitals while putting the state on the hook for Medicaid expansion. He's threatened LSU football at least twice and it's only April.
He'll be a one term governor if he's lucky.

With the ACT score as low as it was, it was putting people in college that had no hope of actually getting a worthwhile degree. A lot of them would just flunk out/leave and the taxpayer's investment goes up in smoke.
I graduated high school in '95 and was on an ROTC scholarship, so I have no idea what the min ACT score was for TOPS then, nor do I know what it was recently. However, either the ACT is easier now or this second quote is ridiculous. I made a 25 and graduated LSU easily.

I hope this is true, but can we get a single link?

One term failure.
After you voted in a moron to two terms, this is quite funny. Isn't the whole point to cut the budget, and now that the budget is being cut, you're pissed?

Yeah, TOPS should be cut if it meant idiots like you got degrees on my dime.

Aren't a lot of LSU baseball players on TOPS?

It's currently at 20.
Also, not only are you applying a single person to a much larger group, you're using data over 20 years old.

Sorry don't have the link but F. King Alexander sent an email out last this afternoon to the entire student body

Yes, even though it is same requirement for everyone. If there is a complaint on either/any side, it is an admittance of less overall intelligence, drive and/or both.
I've always thought affirmative action was racist against blacks because of this reason.

Screenshot of the email at least?
Edit: not questioning you, would just like to see something official on it out of my own curiosity

Eh, for baseball it does play a small part for the partial scholarships/low number of scholarships given, etc. A few are.

Edwards' proposal cuts the scholarship by $183.2 million next fall and spring, leaving just $110 million available for the program. If fully funded, TOPS was expected to cost $298 million.
Under the current TOPS law, the ACT score required to get the scholarship automatically goes up if there is a funding shortfall in the program. An $183.2 million shortfall in TOPS would mean a 26 ACT score would be needed to get the scholarship. A few poor students would also qualify for the scholarship with a 25 ACT score, because of the way the law works.
If the new ACT cutoff went into place because of budget cuts, it's estimated that around 17,400 students would qualify for TOPS next fall and spring. That's significantly down from the 51,000 students who receive the scholarship this year.

Then I think a jump to 26 is pretty extreme. I could see a jump to 22 and at MOST up to 24. I'm no lib, but to me this is going to really hurt kids from small schools (like I went to) in rural areas who are never exposed to things that show up on the ACT, particularly in math and science.

My question is, if TOPS gets cut back, who is going to pay to educate Texas' workforce?
Or are most of these Louisiana college grads all staying in La, surely not too many move to Houston or Dallas...or places like Atlanta?
