I picked up a Firewood rack. Bought it to work, had the paint crew blast and dimetcoat it and I use it to this day 8-9 years later.

..put a large, expensive sectional from the camp at the street for trash pickup that had been infested with hundreds, maybe thousands of mice during the off season... literally soaked inside and out with mouse urine, holes and tunnels through every cushion, and mouse feces falling out by the bucket full... I duct taped big white poster boards across it with "INFESTED BY MICE" in 12" black letters w/skull and crossbones... didn't last an hour...

My wife is famous for picking things up from the curb because she knows I can fix shite.
She brought home a Dyson DC17 that someone was throwing away. It had no suction, but I simply took apart the cyclone and cleaned out all of the carpet fibers and pet hair and it works perfectly. This think has incredible suction power, but you've got to clean it occasionally. This is a $500 vacuum someone was throwing away.
She recently brought home a Ryobi weed eater someone was throwing away. The cover over the carb was missing, but it would start but not run for long. I bought a carb cover for $3 and discovered that the fuel line inside the tank was broken. Replaced the rubber line and it works perfectly.
People are too lazy and stupid to fix shite.

quote:My wife was walking our dogs last year and came home and told me she wanted me to take my truck and help her load up a piece of furniture someone was throwing away. It was an antique dresser made of solid wood and the drawers were in pieces on top of it and on the ground. All solid wood dovetail drawers. Took it home, cleaned it, put some Old English on it, glued and brad nailed the drawers back together, and sold it at my sister's garage sale for $225 a couple weeks later.
My wife borrows my truck to dumpster dive shite all of the time. She likes taking old furniture etc and refinishing it.

I got a ghetto blaster that someone put out by the dumpster at my apartments in the early 80's. The cassette deck didn't work, but all of the radio channels worked, including the short wave band. It stayed in my garage until 2010.

I think by now most people put out things like that knowing it’ll never actually make it to the dump.
Free grill though

I picked up an Ikea baby bed still in the box, an oak rocking chair in perfect shape, and 4x8 sheets of stainless steel. If you're in the right neighborhoods, the curb is a gold mine for a cheap arse.

While y’alls wives are telling y’all what trash to pick up from the curb to save a few bucks, I’m over here picking up y’all’s trashy wives from the curb for a few bucks.
Win-win!!

Back in my broke lsu days we would fill the garage with tossed computer desks, coffee tables, etc that were on the side of the road in may when everybody was moving out. In august we would post all of it on craigslist and sell the shite out of it. I made a couple grand one summer doing this.
