I've been to Seattle, I've been to Portland
I've been to Hollywood
I've been to Redwood
I crossed the ocean
For a heart of gold
I've been in my mind
It's such a fine line
That keeps me searching
For a heart of gold
And I'm getting old

I’m trying to figure out what the OP is even possibly referencing here. Tulane students?

Well I have been to Spain, and I’ve been to Oklahoma

What's a "hipster?" Hippo on steroids (= a large person)?

but the Bywater/St Claude folks take it to another level of weird.
Almost none of them are actually from Louisiana, yet try to claim New Orleans as their home as if they have had generations lived here.
They generally have 0 connection whatsoever to actual Louisiana and moved down because they took a trip when younger and liked the French Quarter's gross, unorthodox ways as that's how they are. That's 90% of them.

Being weird is part of Portland's claim of fame.

The homeless are the problem there. Of course, that problem came about because of the hipster voting patterns.

Seattle
It sucks how bad the culture is there. That place is freaking beautiful, especially in the summer time. Doesn’t get dark til almost 10 pm in August. An outdoorsman’s dream, hiking, camping, wildlife, fishing. I played golf with my BiL on a Thursday at 1pm and there was a line at the tee box to tee off.
But damn if id have a difficult time living there. Sitting around drinking with his friends they’re asking me all these questions and eventually I realized I’m like a Martian to them. Asking me if I have a gun, do I hunt, all kinds of random questions. Most were nice enough people, but I’m pretty sure none had ever spoken to a man from the south and I felt like they were waiting for me to tell them about the first time I lynched a black guy.

This seems obviously false in Portland, but it doesn't really matter. Staying home and not voting for the correct government is the same as voting for the worst possible scenario.
Same comment applies to people who vote for third party candidates who have no chance of winning.

Yeah ima have to disagree with you there Jim….
That being said, the bywater herd, although impressive, is not a native species but instead arrived via migration.

As a Seattle native I have to agree with elprez00 and his assessment of Seattle. Seattle is very insular and full of passive-aggressive hipster Lefties. One thing I admire about you Southerners is your passion and knowledge of college football. In Seattle, most football fans are all about the Seahawks, with little interest when it comes to the college game. For me, all about the college game.

Both add a vote to the other side. Indifference to the world burning is just as bad as support of the world burning.
