re: It's probably been covered before, but has any fast-food chain fallen as hard as KFC?

I can only add my bit of semi scientific observation...

About once per month I work at a location that sits next to a KFC; I would eat KFC every 3 months or so to get my fix. For years it was consistently good; the cook, the 11 herbs and spices, the caramelization, all of it was dead on...every time. I hate Pepsi, but you could get root beer or cherry Pepsi...even took my own Coke once in a while.

During the pandemic, and resulting global enshatification, it really slipped; so much so that I did not got back for all of 2024.

I tried a different KFC location earlier this year, and a third one this summer. All bad. Even the mashed potatoes were gross, and the honey for the undercooked biscuits just plain tasted weird.

KFC has been removed even from my "I'll go there if I have to" list.

Congratulations Colonel, you have been superseded by the gas station sandwich...

Pepsico

along with Taco Bell

It's been almost 30 years now since pepsico owned them. They're under yum brands.

We have 2 Burger Kings in my hometown. One recently closed and the other is habitually out of product. They probably won't last long either

I liked the grilled chicken the best and they quit providing it. The fried was always tough when I would get it.

You have to understand the original chains like KFC, Taco Bell, Wendy’s were awesome when they were ran by the original founders who actually cared about quality and service. Once they sold to big corporations it went downhill.

I too used to love it. It’s been awful for a few years now.

Drove through a Burger King the other day and ordered a Whopper meal. They said, " Oh, by the way, we are out of lettuce. Is that OK?"

How the hell does a burger joint run out of lettuce? Last trip to BK for me.

Out of all the reasons to stop eating nasty arse Burger King, your last straw is lettuce?

no different then Pizza Hut and those type brands
Pizza Hut is a shell of it's former self

Aren't KFC and Pizza Hut owned by same brand
Once they got involved it was all downhill
You hit the nail on the head. Yum Brands bought up KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell. They're based out of Louisville. Hence why UofL plays basketball at the Yum Center.

Didn't all three used to be pretty good? Aren't all three pretty much shite now? You do the math folks.

I'm not sure I've ever been inside a KFC

I have eaten the chicken though. W\hen I was a wee tot we had a family funeral and a neighbor brought over a bucket.

I've wanted to get a bucket ever since. Do they still have them? I don't mean a lot of chicken in a sack, I mean an actual bucket. I never see them littered on the ground, so I presume they don't exist anymore.

It has always been soggy crap. That's a pitiful looking chicken sandwich.

It was honestly way better in the early 90s. We don't even have them around me anymore because the food got so nasty.

They changed something about 20-25 years ago because their chicken went from the good greasy to the awful greasy.

Haven't eaten since.

(Edited because I still forget how old I am)

They were ridiculously high before Biden and Inflation took off. Too high for a fast food burger jurnt...

They still have them, but nowadays, that would be a lot of bad chicken.
