re: It’s amazing what they’ve done to our food supply

Yes and it needs to be an elected position. You think the FDA and USDA do a good job?
Elected positions don't help when the only candidates put forward are owned by the corporations they are supposed to be regulating. Just look at that fat Ag Commish we have in Louisiana. He rides to the state Capitol with the Farm Bureau lobbyists, who answer to Big Ag.
And check this chart out:
The US spends far less on food, as a % of income, than other countries, developed or underdeveloped.
One reason, for example, is the huge government subsidies on corn, which permeates all processed food. All of it.
As a result, Americans go the cheap (and engineered sweet/salty) route and stuff their pantries and guts with extremely unhealthy food. Or should I say "food-like substances."
So, at least part of the problem is government interference in markets and food inputs. And then there's the government regulatory agencies being in deep capture to Big Ag/Food and Big Pharma.

Trader Joes has a lot of items with limited natural ingredients. Whole Foods too probably.
That's mostly marketing. Note that every Whole Foods brand 365 nuts are roasted in seed oils.

I’m small government but we are beyond that
I hate to throw around this term but we are an oligarchy at this point. You simply can not deny it.
Big pharma
Big tech
Big food
Big oil
They lobby the government. Every politician is bought and paid for.
They pay the government to turn a blind eye while they control what we eat, put in our bodies, read, see, think, drive, purchase, etc.
Something must be done.
And the most powerful lobby is the AIPAC.

I was shocked at the crap in both Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods products. Depends on the item and brand. That’s why I try to scan them.

So Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup has never had chocolate in it.

Anyone who has dieted and actually watched what they eat knows this already. It's sad how corrupt the govt agencies are because they sellout to the big companies while completely putting up roadblocks for smaller companies. Just look at their stance and crusade against raw milk. Basically take everything they say and do the opposite of you feel like living.

I’ll side with the government on this one. Raw milk is nasty.

And if you read Bryars box it’s not “ice cream”. It’s “frozen dessert” or some shite. It doesn’t even meet the fda criteria of “ice cream” anymore.

You’re the same guy who thinks something is better for you just because the label says that it’s “organic”.
Raw milk is what people drank for millennia until the early 20th century. And it wasn’t until the industrialization of our food supply that tainted milk became a widespread thing necessitating pasteurization.

Right up to the point medical science advanced enough to tell us when someone died from drinking bad milk. Crazy coincidence.

You ignored the part about industrialization, organic boy.

That chart says the opposite to me. Average income is $3600/yr in Cameroon v $60k/yr in the US. So the typical food cost in Cameroon is $1600 vs $3000 in the US.

There is an organic version of everything you buy. It might be a little pricier and require a little more work to prepare, but the government isn’t needed to solve consumer laziness.
Even the "organic" market in our country is full of frickery and corner cutting that dilutes what "organic" is supposed to represent.

Should we go back to owning our own cow if we want milk?

If you want to. I buy my raw milk from a local farming source.
