Look into the history of the EBRPSS and attendance zones and guess why people may not take advantage of public schools in that area.
If the area has no trust that there will be a continuity in attendance zones, they may be wary of sending kids there and then finding out that they aren’t being fed to school X next, as is traditional, but school Y, which is across town and has a F grade.

The same Exxon which got bent over by EBRPSS on tax exemptions in the past year?
I wouldn’t count on a lot of donations from them anytime soon. Talk about penny wise and pound foolish.

All the benefits of city-life, while sticking someone else with the bill. Just like everything else - right wing socialism lives!

They already have a brand new school in the limits paid for by all of EBR, I wonder if they’ll have to pay it back.
Asinine. Is EBRPSS going to pay SG for the BRHS renovations we helped find, the new Lee, or any of the other facilities??? The fact is that the unincorporated area is paying more into the EBRPSS than services/buildings get allocated to them.

What is St George receiving that they aren’t paying for?
Thanks to the system set up in the area, nearly everything is a parish level service that will still be paid or is privatized.

Mary Olive Battleaxe will drop her lawsuit, St. George will request a stay on all appointments pending the outcome, and Eddie Rispone, St. George supporter will pick the mayor.

Going to be hard to pee all over everything when you have to sit to pee. Sounds like the whining of a jealous count that woke up this morning realizing what a shite hole he lives in. Make better life choices, man...

Yep. If St. George is able to form their own school district, and that's a big if, they will have to pay EBR Schools for those schools. Zachary, Central and Baker all had to do the same thing
bullshite! Louisiana Court of Appeals sided with Central saying that the resources of the schools belong to the tax payers not the school systems, and they will follow the local tax payers

I’ll be honest I have great pity on anyone who lives in the Baton Rouge or st George area. That area has no redeeming qualities. All the problems of big city life — crime, traffic, decay. None of the benefits of city life. Baton Rouge is essentially Mobile AL, but with a longer drive to the beaches. St George proponents boasting of their win over Baton Rouge is like a prisoner bragging to his across the hall neighbor that his cell is better

He gotta win first
In truth, he'll likely name the first set of officials no matter what happens. The officials of the petition effort have to publicly print the results of the election in the parish's official public record. If there are no challenges within 30 days of the formal notice of record, the incorporation is in force and the governor names the officers. If there is a challenge, then when the challenge is settled, the governor will name the officers.
Elections for the legally mandated seats (mayor, police chief, aldernmen, etc.) will be held on the first available municipal election day after the incorporation takes effect. I THINK that municipal elections happen in the spring with primaries around the later part of March.
In short, if the incorporation happens any time before Louisiana's inauguration day, Edwards will name the interim officials of the city, no matter the outcome of the gubernatorial general election. It is in his best interests for him to name the interim officials after the runoff, so he can name people who will frick St. George the most to keep his people happy without having to answer for it and getting crucified during the runoff.
Don't forget that as of last night's election, if Edwards gets all the Democrat and Independent votes in the runoff and Rispone gets only the Republican votes, JBE loses 49-51. Edwards is in the fight of his life for re-election and he can't afford to have to choose between fricking St. George and losing because it becomes a statewide wedge issue or pissing his EBR base off and losing because they refuse to come out to vote for him. The only way he isn't hurt by the St. George issue is to delay when he legally has to name the interim officials by only a few weeks to make it through the runoff. Hell, if the organizers publish tomorrow, 30 days would be Nov. 12th. He realistically only needs to find a way to delay 5 days.
Expect the opposition to have a legal challenge filed at the last minute.

All this started over the schools.
You have the fastest growing part of the parish and one high school while they overspend on existing schools inside the city where attendance is down.
As far as EBRPSS was it fair for Central to have to buy its schools after these people paid that school off years ago. The same for the Zachary and Baker school system. If St George get its own ISD the same will happen. We will have to buy the schools our tax dollars paid for. At this time this area still in the EBRPSS and still pay for this service.
As far as city and parish tax dollars. This would have never happened if the city and parish would have been split. Combined it was easy for the metro council to take money that was for projects in unicorporated areas to use it toward city projects.
Example: Now the city of BR will have to raise taxes or cut expenses.like $1 million dollar community centers will have to go away or the community that uses it pays for it.
BREC has gymns operating in low income area that do the same thing, so why do we have a duplication of services?
Now money that should go for cleaning ditches in parish right of ways is not there. It takes 6 years to get on a list to clean a ditch.
What is wrong with this picture?
Again a community center that cost $1 million that a duplication of services that Brec already provides or keeping ditches clean.
Which one is a better way to spend money?

They city could have incorporated the area.
St George gave the area an option since BR did not want the area.

The city doesn't incorporate areas. The area had to want to be annexed and request it. Who the frick wants to be in Baron Rouge?
