Elon Musk is working on electric cars and reusable rockets right now. He'll get around to it.

Air travel has not markedly improved since the advent of the jet engine decades ago.
Besides crashing pretty frequently. US airlines basically never have a fatal accident these days.

If it's taking you 12 to fly somewhere you're one of the poors

On my last flight I was surrounded by babies, twins to our left and babies in front and behind us, all under 2 years. dirty diaper smell the whole way , worst return flight ever
1. Noise canceling headphones
2. Vicks vapor rub on your top lip.
Problems solved

I automatically distrust anyone who uses the term "poors" or a variation of it. This guy sounds like a real loser

Houston to Luanda, Angola is +/-14.5hrs. I make that run every 28 days and it's not bad at all. We fly SonAir and ~80% of the plane has huge chairs that lay almost perfectly flat. Of course, each chair has a video screen. That gives you access to roughly 20 different movies to choose from and they change them out every 2 months or so.
So you fly "Chevron" to Africa?

What made it so much more expensive? Fuel? Maintenance? Pilot training / pay to go supersonic? Liability?
All of the above. It was a luxury airliner so it wasn't going to be cheap regardless. But the pilots were more Highly trained, and it used a lot of fuel to reach those heights and speeds.

Its 2016 and we still have 12+ hour flights
They do have quick flights that would normally take longer, it's called SpaceX and their shite keeps blowing up, but by all means go for it, dude.

Sometimes. Usually all i see are airplanes, hotels, conference rooms and factories or warehouses. on a long trip there are weekend days and other down time periods. I have seen some cool stuff.
Singapore is intersting but not my favorite. its boring as hell. Super clean. Expensive, signs all in english. In Asia Hong Kong is my favorite. China is interesting but polluted as frick.

Delta has the worst service off all and their planes are outdated.
At first I thought you were just trying to brag about your travels.
Now I know you're just a liar and don't really fly international very often.
Delta the worst service? Not even close. Granted, there are quite a few with better (looking at you Etihad and Emirates). But there are a ton far worse - KLM, British Air, China Airlines, United -- all have well below Delta's service.
As far as outdated planes -- I don't think so. Yes, they do still fly the 747's - but I personally prefer those over the new Boeings and Air Bus wide bodies. The Delta 747's offer the biggest lay-flat business seats out there (with the exception of some of the higer-priced Middle East carriers).
And I haven't even mentioned how shitty of service you get on carriers like Egypt Air, American Airlines and sub-par service on carriers like Korea Air, Lufthansa, and Air France.

I bought a used SR-71. New York to London in an hour and a half.

American has the oldest planes for domestic travel.
Virgin and Delta have some of the nicest domestically.
I don't know of enough internationally especially given all of the partner relationships.

Actually AA's fleet is younger than Delta's especially after you factor in the US Airways fleet.
Virgin America -- 5 years
Spirit Airlines (NASDAQ:SAVE) -- 5.2 years
Republic Airways -- 5.5 years
JetBlue -- 7.4 years
Frontier Airlines -- 8.2 years
Alaska Air (NYSE:ALK) -- 9.6 years
Hawaiian Airlines -- 10 years
SkyWest -- 11 years
Southwest Airlines (NYSE:LUV) -- 11.7 years
US Airways -- 12.1 years
American Airlines -- 13.6 years
United Airlines -- 13.6 years
Delta Air Lines -- 16.9 years
Allegiant Travel (NASDAQ:ALGT) -- 22 years

You do realize you're in an aluminum tube traveling at 500 mph over 40 thousand feet above the earth? As a pilot, frick off.
Not to mention transoceanic travel used to take MONTHS and half your crew died of scurvy before you got there anyway.

I thought we would have underground shuttles that would travel 1000 mph. New York to Los Angeles in 3 hours.

I've had great luck with Delta airlines for domestic and international routes. They are fine for 7-8 hour trans-Atlantic routes as well. I've crossed the pond on an Airbus A330, Boeing 767, 747-400, and a narrow body 757 (all Delta Airlines).
All were pleasant trips except for the A330, which took a couple of hours longer than the 747-400 for some reason. Looking forward to Delta's new A350s.
Honestly I don't want anything longer than 9 hours in a jet unless I'm in business class.

I was on a Delta 747-400 from CDG to DTW back in September. I loved it. I wish they'd overhaul their interiors rather than slowly retire them.
I think the 747-8's future might be secured by the air cargo market. I want to fly on one of them. May have to go with Lufthansa next time.

It is a great plane. Only Lufthansa, Korean, and Air China are currently flying the 747-800i for commercial passenger use.
Sadly the queen of the skies days maybe numbered as a passenger aircraft.
