I am thinking a fountain soda. The drink, cup, ice, lid, and straw cost roughly 11 cents to make and sells for around $2.

French Fries
A 40lb case of fries is well under $20. You can get 80 orders of large fries out a case. That doesn't factor in shortening which isn't very expensive and last a while.

Eclipse glasses always seemed like a good racket. You can even predict when demand will be at its highest.

A glass of ice tea at a restaurant. Costs $2.50 a glass and probably costs 5¢ to make
Not really.
Machine is rented. Then put in overhead like water, gas, elec, etc.
Profit margins in restaurants are very slim tbh.
Now bars?
Case of bud light recoups its cost after a 6 pack.

They don’t have similar overhead?

Retail priced electronic and video cables.
These things are cents per foot, and often sell for dollars.
While you still have to sell a shitload of them, I have known small computer places that prospered on the basis of 'only' having a 400% markup on cost of things like HDMI, CAT5, power cables, etc.

Let's talk about the fact that the handle of liquor for well drinks sells as low as $10 and you'll get run $5 at a bare minimum for a double.

Overhead isn't calculated in profit margin. P&L is a different story than the margin on a Coke.

R&D is built into the price point and profits still have a large margin.
