The Daily Beast laments:

quote:

ROME—If you turn on the news in Italy right now, you might be forgiven for thinking you are getting reruns from March. Pictures of COVID-only units, field hospitals being erected, exhausted medics and coffins are again dominating headlines as Italy comes to grips with a deadly second wave of COVID-19. On Wednesday, the death toll topped 125 in a 24-hour period for the first time since May when this country was still under a Draconian lockdown and seen as a harbinger of what was to come.

What's particularly troubling about the return of COVID in Italy is that the country has done everything experts like Dr. Anthony Fauci have been advising. Masks in public places have been compulsory for months, social distancing is strongly enforced, night clubs have never reopened and sporting arenas are at less than a third capacity. Children who are back at school are regularly tested and strictly social distanced, and yet, the second wave seems completely unstoppable.

While ruling out another full lockdown, Italian health officials are instead urging people to limit their own movements, even as concern grows that by urging people not to go out of their homes, they are inadvertently encouraging private parties where the spread seems to be the worst for the moment. Italy’s health ministry released data this week showing that 80.3 percent of the new infections “occur at home” while only 4.2 percent come from recreational activities and schools.

It's almost like this virus is going to run its course like every other coronavirus no matter how many feel good bullshite steps we take.

Who could imagine all the BS protocols aren't going to stop a damn virus?

Too bad they moved the goal post from flatten the curve to eliminate the new cases. One was an achievable goal, the other is a fantasy now used to keep power.

No country has beaten this, or will ever beat it

Not even NZ. They have just prolonged it more than others. Unless of course they decided to keep their borders closed for eternity

They've moved the goalposts so many times most have forgotten what we were trying to accomplish.

I was on board with slowing the spread and taking precautions (to prevent overwhelming the health care system) but now they are acting like the virus could be stopped by our actions alone. It's political bullshite.

Yes, it was. The Party of Science, the "we follow the science" folks, and the supposed experts forgot all previous science in March.

They forgot that "we stand on the shoulders of giants," throwing all previous knowledge that went against the current groupthink by the wayside.

It's disturbing.

Honestly who cares at this point. Second wave blah blah, what a crock of shite this whole thing has been. Yes, it’s a virus that can negatively affect you, just like millions of other things can. I’m over it.

All of the shutdowns are pure politics.

Masks are pure politics. I can show you countless research papers showing it. Again, politics!

This thing is going to spread. We have much better treatment solutions now than we did 6 months ago.

Open it up and let's live our lives. Vulnerable stay home if desired, but you have to completely isolate. Who wants to live their life like that?

Herd immunity will get here faster than any successful vaccine if we do.

this has been my point for a few months. the virus will get its pound of flesh, you cant stop it. protect yourself if you are vulnerable and carry on while adjusting for major hotspot outbreaks.

whats the endgame??? flatten the curve, more beds, more ventilators, just until a vaccination.....all bullshite.

hows that flu shot working to eliminate that virus?

It's a virus!!!! It doesn't care what you do or who is in the White House. That's not how any of this works.

Our country is so stupid. At the beginning all the experts said (rightfully so) that we cannot prevent the spread of a virus. We would only be able to try and slow it down where necessary to hopefully prevent overwhelming hospitals.

Now that we know that won't be an issue there is no excuse not to get back to normal but now the directive has changed to "preventing the spread." And our mostly idiotic citizens think this is somehow now doable 8 months later when it wasn't before.

Media and the government are enemies of the people.

sadly I think you have a lot of folks in powerful positions who cannot admit that they were wrong on the lockdowns. We'll suffer because of someone's ego or re-election bid.
