Awful news, but this is the 2nd day of a slowdown.
New cases down 27% in 2 days, lowest number of new cases since 3/17.

My parents know some folks in northern Italy that they befriended when my dad was in the Air Force and stationed there. They said they're fine right now but that shite is real bad there.

I mean what the hell are you guys expecting? Its not going to just go away? Its going to peak and then hopefully slowly come down soon which should be any day. If the new cases go back up from today, that's not unexpected either.
Then in a few days or even a few weeks we could get some spikes in new cases again. Again normal.
Nothing is going to drastically change overnight.

Not only were the numbers increasing, the rate of increase was also increasing so seeing this is discussion worthy and encouraging

Yep. The obsession with the raw number of confirmed cases has always baffled me. The more you test, the bigger the numbers will be. Expand the tests and you'll start catching the asymptomatic positives (of which there are a lot). The only numbers that really matter at this point are the number requiring hospital treatment and the number of deaths.

They took some pretty strong actions on 3/9 which probably caused this peak. 14 days ago. Covid can spread for 14 days. Peak hit 13 days after 3/9.

Highly doubtful, tests are taking up to a week to result, so it wont even be possible to tell until days after peak.

I agree its encouraging, OP said "awful news". That's what I was commenting about. This is all going to need to run its course and take some time.
My worry is no one is expecting big numbers from the USA. We are going to get some big numbers most likely, so people just need to stay calm and expect that for a couple of days.

Which makes sense given the incubation and spread statistics.
90-95% of infected will show symptoms in 7-8 days and will spread to 2.2 on average.
